Celebrities can take years to carefully build up their flawless reputations in the public eye without putting a foot wrong.

However, these carefully built up images can easily be shaken by an accidentally uploaded Instagram post, leaked image or unflattering snap.

The fear for some is that the threat to their image may completely derail their curated personas – but others slip ups are simply just an embarrassing mistake.

Rita Ora fell into the latter category this week as she accidentally posted a selfie where she suffered a nip slip while posing in bed with her pal.

However, the singer didn’t seem too worried about the slip up as the photo is still up on her Instagram page currently. 

After the gaffe,  MailOnline takes a look at the many instances where the world has seen images that celebrities wouldn’t have wanted them too.

Rita Ora nip slip 

Rita Ora ensured all eyes were on her as she shared a sizzling photo dump on Instagram on Monday.

The 34-year-old singer turned up the heat as she flaunted her stunning figure in a revealing orange bikini.

She followed up with a steamy makeup-free bed selfie alongside a friend where she flashed her nipple.

And it appears Rita hasn’t noticed as the gaffe as the image remains up on her Instagram page.

Khloe Kardashian’s unfiltered snap

In 2021 a leaked photo of Khloe Kardashian in a bikini began circulating online.

It was reported at the that she and her family were working overtime to wipe any trace of it from the internet. 

Khloe addressed the drama on Instagram days later, as she shared live videos of herself to prove that her body ‘isn’t photoshopped.’ 

Subsequently she issued a lengthy statement where she spoke about the pressure of being in the spotlight and her body being ‘micro-analyzed’ as a public figure.  

The star also revealed that being compared to her siblings, Kim and Kourtney, in addition to ‘constant ridicule and judgement’ has been ‘too much to bear.’

An excerpt from her message read: ‘As someone who has struggled with body image her whole life, when someone takes a photo of you that isn’t flattering in bad lighting or doesn’t capture your body the way it is after working so hard…

‘You should have every right to ask for it to not be shared, regardless of who you are.

She continued: ‘My body, my image and how I choose to look and what I want to share is my choice. 

‘It’s not for anyone to decide or judge what is acceptable or not anymore,’ also adding that she likes a good filter, good lighting and an edit here and there.

Jennifer Aniston smoking  

Despite her good-girl image, Jennifer Aniston has a long history of smoking, which she has said she’s since quit.

But in 2022, the now 55-year-old actress and wellness advocate was pictured lighting up amid her birthday celebrations.

Her ex-husband, Justin Theroux, posted a video of the actor lighting a cigarette before it was quickly deleted off his Instagram story.

Aniston has admitted she was a chain smoker for years early in her career, regularly making her way through a pack of cigarettes a day.

But in 2007, three years after finishing her hit show Friends, she decided to quit — saying the habit was affecting her health, energy and even relationships.

It doesn’t appear she’s regularly picked up the habit again, but it also seems she hasn’t put away her lighter for good.

Experts worry that as celebrities once again glamorize the deadly habit, smoking could become ‘in’ again — and be taken up by a new wave of young people. 

Former New York City health commissioner Dr Mary Bassett said previously: ‘When young people see glamorous stars smoking and flouting the law, it undermines the progress that has been made in de-normalizing smoking.’

Public health officials and campaigns have highlighted the well-documented health effects associated with cigarettes. 

Beyoncé’s Super Bowl controversy 

In 2013 Beyonce made many headlines after she performed at the Super Bowl half time show.

After the show the singer’s team were unhappy with some of the images of her looking animated on stage.

One her publicist emailed the site Buzzfeed to ask them to take them down but the site refused.  

The email read: ‘There are some unflattering photos on your current feed that we are respectfully asking you to change.’

Buzzfeed reacted by writing an article that read: ‘The ‘Unflattering’ Photos Beyoncé’s Publicist Doesn’t Want You To See.’

When Beyonce performed during the halftime of 2013’s Super Bowl XLVII, there was nothing in world being talked about more. 

In fact, it was tweeted about more than the game itself.

And one of the biggest reasons for the big fuss was the long-awaited reunion of Beyonce with her former Destiny’s Child band mates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, who popped out of the stage during the show to the elation of R&B fans everywhere.

‘It’s one of those magical performances you can’t recreate,’ said the Single Ladies star said afterwards. 

‘I wanted it to be something iconic and something that people would never forget.’ 

Rami Malek/ Rachel Bilson drama

In 2021 Rachel Bilson and Rami Malek cleared the air after some dramatic back-and-forth over an old snap lit the internet alight.

The O.C. actress explained that the stars are ‘good’ after revealing that the Oscar winner asked her to take down a throwback pic of them from her Instagram account.

‘Rami and I have actually talked. Since that came out, he connected with me and we’re all good,’ she said during an appearance on the LadyGang podcast at the time.

‘He was so sweet and we’re totally fine now, and we talked about it and we’re good,’ she said in the episode.

‘He was so gracious, and I totally understood where he was coming form and he understood me. And I was just so happy we were able to squash it and, like, move on,’ the Hart of Dixie star added.

The month before she explained that they both attended Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, and were in the ‘same crew’.

However despite being friends at high school, Rachel revealed that Rami DM’d her to request she remove a picture of them on Instagram because he’s a ‘private person’.

She made the admission on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert, as she revealed she shared a throwback snap just before he won the Oscar for Bohemian Rhapsody in 2019. 

‘I had posted a throwback of us from our senior trip to New York. We’re super nerdy…just the dorkiest picture of the both of us. But I throw it up, ’cause it’s funny and I think it’s so important to be able to make fun of yourself,’ she explained at the time.

She admitted that she doesn’t check her Instagram DM’s too often, but a week later she saw a message from Malek. 

‘It wasn’t like, ‘Hey! How are you?!’ It was straight to: ‘I would really appreciate if you take that down. I’m a really private person,” she explained.

‘I was like, I guess I should’ve found something more flattering. But I removed it and I even wrote to him a really nice message: ‘I’m so sorry. Go get the Oscar! You’re doing amazing.’

‘And I never heard anything back, which is fine. But I was super bummed because he was always so nice and we were good friends,’ she added.

The story quickly took off, with social media discussing the exchange ad nauseum, much to the embarrassment of Bilson: ‘My friend sent me a CNN link to it. I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?!”

Axl Rose’s meme battle 

In 2016 Axl Rose demanded that an image he claimed was released without his consent or approval be removed from the internet by Google. 

The image in question was taken of the Guns N’ Roses frontman at a 2010 concert in Canada by Boris Minkevich and published in the Winnipeg Free Press.

That photo was quickly stolen from the newspaper’s website and used to male memes mocking Rose’s weight.

Rose then hired Web Sheriff to get the photo taken offline. 

Torrent Freak reported at the time that a notice was sent to some sites that hosted the photo reading: ‘Copyright image of Axl Rose. Please be advised that no permission has been granted to publish the copyright image so we cannot direct you to an authorized example of it.’

Web Sheriff also said that Minkevich never had any right to publish or post his photograph since he signed a waiver before the concert.

When asked about this Minkevich told TF that he could not remember if he had signed a waiver at the time as the event took place over six years ago.  

He also said that he was completely unaware that Rose was trying to have the image removed from the internet. 

‘Either way the photo was stolen off our website with no permission granted by the Winnipeg Free Press,’ said Minkevich. 

Kim Kardashian Photoshop row

In 2017 Kim Kardashian claimed ‘awful’ pictures taken by the paparazzi during a trip to Mexico were ‘Photoshopped’ to be unflattering.

The reality star admitted she wasn’t in her ‘best shape’ and hadn’t worked out for 12 weeks when the pictures were taken.

But she was convinced the candid images were ‘sharpened’ and ‘Photoshopped’ to make her look ‘way worse’ than she really did.

Kim, who regularly uses flattering filters to digitally alter the pictures she shares on social media, could be seen with cellulite on her famous derriere and thighs in the paparazzi pictures.

‘I saw these awful photos of myself when I was on a trip in Mexico and people were Photoshopping them and sharpening them,’ Kardashian said on The View afterwards.

‘I definitely was not in my best shape. I hadn’t worked out in about 12 weeks, I’d had two surgeries on my uterus. We documented that on the show.

‘But I was already not feeling like myself and when people were like sharpening them and making them look way worse and then those were going around, I was like “Ok, I’m going to get it together” and I started working out with this bodybuilder girl.’
