Tom Hiddleston reunited with his co-star Hugh Laurie to film The Night Manager’s second series in Richmond-upon-Thames on Wednesday.

The Thor star, 43, was in high spirits as he joined the House actor, 65, to resume work on the thrilling BBC show.

Tom cut a casual figure as he flashed a brief smile to his co-star Hugh during filming, after fans were delighted by the news that The Night Manager would be returning.

Hugh’s appearance on set will also come as a shock to many fans, after his character, the villainous Richard Roper, met his demise during the show’s first series.

The notorious arms dealer was last seen at the end of the BBC One thriller’s first series being forcibly taken away, seemingly to face his demise.

A source commented on his unexpected return last month, and told The Sun: ‘Everyone was working on the basis he’d been killed in series one, so this will come as a pleasant surprise.

‘It’s only going to crank up the excitement for the much-anticipated sequel, which has already started filming and is expected to air next year.’

It comes just a day after Tom was spotted on set for the first time, with his character Jonathan Pine seen sprinting down London’s famous South Bank.

It was a long night for the Loki actor as he filmed the tense outdoor scene at 4am in the morning.

Inspired by the characters in John le Carré’s best-selling novel, the first series won multiple BAFTAs, Emmy Awards, and Golden Globes and was watched by more than ten million viewers, making it one of 2016’s most watched TV shows.

Tom himself won a Golden Globe for his role as ex-soldier Jonathan Pine and, speaking after the shock announcement, said: ‘The first series of The Night Manager was one of the most creatively fulfilling projects I have ever worked on.

‘The depth, range and complexity of Jonathan Pine was, and remains, a thrilling prospect.

‘I’m so looking forward to reuniting with Simon and Stephen Cornwell, David Farr and Stephen Garrett, and to working with Georgi Banks-Davies to tell the next chapter of our story. I can’t wait.’

Along with Tom, the series also starred Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman, Tom Hollander, David Harewood and Elizabeth Debicki.

Tom did nothing to calm the rumours around the upcoming series when he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier this yeatr.

Questioned by the US talk show host about Hugh Laurie’s potential return to the show, the actor said: ‘I don’t know. He is a huge influence – he knows the character better than anyone.’

Kimmel replied: ‘This seems for sure like a lie because you just said you figured out the story. How could there be the story figured out without knowing if Hugh Laurie is in the story?’

Sharing the clip, one X user wrote: ‘Kimmel catching Tom Hiddleston in a straight up lie about whether he knows if Hugh Laurie will be in seasons 2/3 of The Night Manager.’

Hugh is set to join Tom as an executive producer on the series, which is being made by The Ink Factory, but it remains a mystery whether he will reprise his role as Richard Onslow Roper.

The new seasons will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK and globally on Prime Video, in a deal negotiated by FIFTH SEASON, which is handling global distribution of the series.
