The multi-million pound homes celebs can’t sell: Lily Allen and Helen Flanagan among the stars forced to slash property prices

It seems the cost of living crisis has impacted the stars as multiple celebs have been forced to slash the prices of their multi-million homes.

Helen Flanagan, Paddy McGuinness and Lily Allen are among the stars who have been struggling to shift their property.

Some of the biggest names in showbiz that have previously snapped up mega mansions have been waiting a year, sometimes longer, to sell their luxury pads.

Here, we look at all the multi-million pound homes celebs just can’t shift. 

Lily Allen and David Harbour

The warring pair put their New York townhouse on the market in October for $7.95million amid accusations that Stranger Things star David had cheated on the singer.

How much Lily gets out of the sale is unknown as its appears that the four storey, five-bed property was bought solely by David with the transaction being arranged by his long-term business manager Anthony Bonsignore.

And it’s also saddled with a mortgage for $2.5million with City National Bank.

In an interview, Lily admitted that she was no longer financially stable since splitting with David, saying: ‘A year and a half ago, I was financially stable and I didn’t have to think about work. And now I do. And this is what I do to earn money.’

Paddy McGuinness

After splitting with with wife Christine, the pair have been desperate to sell their seven-bedroom mansion situated in Prestbury, part of the celeb hotspot ‘Cheshire golden triangle’.

They put it on the market for £6.5million in March. 

Currently, Paddy is sharing the place with Christine and their three children, having to separate areas of the house to live in while going through a supposedly tricky divorce.

They haven’t shifted the price, but so far, not so good, as there’s not been a sniff of interest. No likey, as Paddy would say.

Helen Flanagan

The Corrie star has been forced to reduce the price of her house by a third since putting it on the market in May. 

Helen admitted to financial struggles and made the heartbreaking decision to put her stunning six-bedroom family home up for sale for £1.5million. 

This was reduced to £1.195million four weeks later in the hope of quick sale, and then again in September it dropped to £995,000, just over a third of the original listed price. 

Someone will be picking up a bargain for the three storey property in a quaint village outside Bolton, which has six bathrooms, a double garage and a huge garden. 

The mansion is spread over 5,000 square feet and is an ‘exceptional and beautifully presented detached family resident’, according to the agent’s listing. 

After splitting from footie ex Scott, Helen claimed in a court appearance for a speeding offence that she was ‘really struggling financially’ after raking in a fortune from Corrie and lucrative appearances on reality shows. 

Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen moved from Hollywood to the Cotswolds – blaming Donald Trump’s re-election for driving her out – and grabbed herself a charming farmhouse set in 43 acres just outside the quaint village of Asthall.

Seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a five-car garage, helipad and even a ‘party barn’, what’s not to love?

Yet it appears that Ellen and wife Portia de Rossi didn’t fully do their homework.

After purchasing the property for £15million in June 2024, it was reported that much of the land was flooded in the storms as it sits next to one of the River Thames’ main tributaries.

Now, they’ve moved to higher land, they’re trying to flog the country estate, but also want to make a few quid, as it’s currently on sale for £22.5million.

Andy Carroll and Billi Mucklow

Their home hit the market in October for £8million following their split – after a sale for a much higher price fell through.

The estranged couple had a buyer lined up for the stunning six-bedroom home in Essex, which was once owned by Sir Rod Stewart. 

They were set to be in for a massive windfall after purchasing the pad six years ago from the crooning rocker for £4.1million.

They had reportedly agreed a deal for £8.5million in June – which would have meant a £4.4million profit and the warring exes could finally move on after rumours of Andy’s cheating.

But they’ve now had to settle on a £500,000 reduction from the previously agreed sale, fingers crossed for next year.

Spencer Matthews and Vogue Williams 

Spare a thought for reality TV’s golden pair, as their luxury apartment was floundering on the market for over two years without finding a buyer. 

The couple had been trying to shift the duplex, in Battersea, south west London, since October 2023 when they put it up for sale for £5.25million with posh estate agents Knight Frank.

Since then, they’ve shifted to Sotheby’s hoping for a better result – and slashed the price twice to £4.7million, then £3.95million.

Just a few weeks ago, Vogue revealed it had finally been sold. 

Jamie and Rebekah Vardy

When the footballer moved to Italy in the summer, the pair decided on a fresh start and listed their uber-modern Portuguese villa in the Algarve for €11.5million.

The property hit the market in June and overlooks the posh Quinta do Lago North golf course. 

It’s got six-bedrooms, nine bathroom, roof terrace, gym, spa, cinema room, and, of course, an amazing pool.

For ultimate luxury and laziness on your holiday, they’ve even got a lift to take you from the pool to the bedroom.

Gino D’Acampo

The popular TV chef’s businesses have been hit hard since Covid with some going bust.

In June, he decided the time was right to get rid of part of his property empire and listed his seven-bedroom Grade II-listed Georgian house situated in Hoddeson, Hertfordshire, for £2.45M.

It’s got seven bedrooms, six bathrooms, a basement and orangery, and is listed with the exclusive estate agents Savills.

The listing states: ‘The current owners have sympathetically restored the house with style and imagination to create an outstanding and impressive property.

‘There are period features throughout typical of houses of this era including fireplaces in eight of the rooms, tall ceilings with roses, original ornate cornices and large shuttered windows which flood the rooms with natural light.’

Alan Titchmarsh

Everyone’s favourite TV gardener is leaving his beloved rural mansion after 23 years to downsize as the huge garden has become a bit too much in older age.

The Grade II-listed home is situated in Hampshire, in a stunning countryside location.

Nevertheless, its four acres is now too much for Alan, who revealed earlier this month he’s conscious of his age and doesn’t want the large grounds to become ‘overwhelming’.

The property, dating back to 1690, came onto the market for £3.95million in September and features five bedrooms, three bathrooms and a ‘party barn’.

For any wine lovers, the ‘sitting beneath the dining room is a vaulted 16th Century wine cellar’, according to the listing with Savills.  

Alan and wife Alison are moving into a more modern pad with ‘just’ one and a half acres of garden. Alan ‘hummed and haa-ed about the wisdom’ of moving. 

He added in a piece written for BBC Gardener’s World: ‘Time to downsize – a little – as those of us of relatively senior years are regularly told we would be wise to do. 

‘To be honest, we had no plans to move. When you restore an old house and make a garden around it, you pour so much of your heart and soul into it that moving on is bound to be a wrench.

‘But when you are knocking on a bit (which I refuse to believe, despite what the numbers tell me) you do muse on the future – a future which I hope will be long and fulfilling.’

The late Paul O’Grady

The comedian’s widower Andre Portasio has had a rotten time trying to sell their stunning rural Kent mansion.

Paul, best known as the character Lily Savage, lived at Knoll Hill House near Ashford from 1999 until his death in March 2023, aged 67. His husband later inherited the estate.

The sprawling property initially hit the market for £3.5million in September last year but sparked little interest from buyers resulting in a drop to £2.65million in January this year, then a further drop in July to £2.4million.

The home comes with a sprawling 20 acres of land, boasts impressive views of the Romney Marsh in Kent and has previously been described as ‘the kind of house you’d find in one of those Enid Blyton books’ by O’Grady’s former partner Brendan Murphy, who died in 2005.

The property is now on for around a third less than 15 months ago.
