Black-ish actress Marsai Martin and Grammy winning singer Paula Cole were both unmasked and voted off on Wednesday’s Soundtrack of My Life themed episode of The Masked Singer on Fox.
The Group A Finals kicked off with all three finalist groups – the three member Buffalos, the Woodpecker and the Ship – all singing High Hopes by Panic! At The Disco.
The crowd gave them a standing ovation. Only one singer would advance to the quarterfinals the other two would be unmasked. The Ding Dong Keep It On Bells was brought back that could save one singer.
The Ship, who had a giant ship head, went first sharing more clues to her identity. She picked the song Because the Night by Patti Smith Group.
She also shared that when she was younger she jumped at the chance to sing backup on an international tour when she only had $2 a day to live on.

‘You’ve been killing power ballads!’ Robin Thicke, 47, said.
The Men in Black brought out another clue for the Ship which was a note from singer LeAnn Rimes congratulating her on winning best new artist in 1998 .
‘It meant the world to receive recognition from such a talented woman like LeAnn Rimes,’ the Ship said.
Ken Jeong, 55, thought that meant that the Ship was Alanis Morissette.
‘That doesn’t sound like Alanis Morissette,’ Robin said.
‘Wouldn’t it be ironic if Ken was right,’ Jenny McCarthy, 51, said.
Jenny was the only one who initially guessed correctly that she might be Paula Cole because of the cowboy references in her clues.
‘I’m such an introvert this is really stressing me out,’ the Ship said. ‘Ive been watching this show with my daughter and we love you and thank you so much for having me here.’

Next the Woodpecker shared more clues to her identity.
‘I come from a long line of strong chicks in my family tree,’ she said.
Her extra clues were a photo of Regina Hall, a record turntable, a globe and a burger. She then took the stage and sang Put Your Records On by Corinne Bailey Rae.
‘That was amazing,’ Ken said.
The Woodpecker said she hoped she was making her grandmother proud. Her extra clue was a pair of glasses.
‘I know who it is now,’ Host Nick Cannon said.
‘These glasses remind me of how I got my start because I can see clearly now that my career has taken off,’ Woodpecker said.
Sadly the Woodpecker received the lowest score and was the first contestant of the night unmasked.

Robin said he thought she was Liza Koshy. Ken insisted it was Quinta Brunson of Abbot Elementary. Jenny thought it might be Tatyana Ali. Rita Ora thought she was Keke Palmer. They all turned out to be wrong instead the Woodpecker turned out to be Black-ish star Marsai Martin , 20, who was the first contestant unmasked. Nick asked her what made her do the Masked Singer.
‘First of all, me and my grandma Bonnie, shout out to her, we watched this all the time,’ Marsai said. ‘ This show has been absolutely amazing and honestly singing has just been out of my comfort zone for the longest time. So I think to be able to be behind the mask and become this certain character, this certain facade in a way, just felt fun and exciting.’
The three Buffalos then took the stage next and shared the clues that they lost someone who was important to them. Then they sang Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve while they danced together.
‘Buffalos brought out the vocals tonight,’ Nick said.
‘We’ve been in this industry for a very long time, and we’ve gained a lot and we’ve lost a lot,’ one of the Buffalos said.
Their extra show was a t-shirt that said ‘halftime show.’ Jenny thought it might be Boyz II Men. Ken thought they were Bone Thugs N Harmony. Rita Ora thought they might be the Black Eyed Peas.
‘I don’t think these are Fergie-less peas,’ Robin said.
The Buffalos and the Ship then went mask to mask with both teams singing Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac. The Ship went first singing it fast but the Buffalo’s turned it more into a slower ballad.
‘Talk about a battle of the voice!’ Nick said.
The Buffalos were crowned the Group A winners at the end of the night after the votes were tabulated.
‘I don’t think these are Fergie-less peas,’ Robin said.
For their final guesses, Rita Ora thought the Ship was Sarah McLachlan. Ken insisted it was Alanis Morissette, Robin thought she was Amy Lee from Evanescence but only Jenny guessed correctly that she was Paula Cole
‘Well, they asked me, and I thought this makes me uncomfortable but I thought there’s so much possibility when you pick up your bravery and you do something outside of your comfort zone,’ Paula, 56, said. ‘So I pushed myself and then it’s just fun! It’s just fun and I’ll get to watch it with my daughter’
