The Block may see a couple break up before the show wraps this year according to an insider, as a producer confirmed one team throw in the towel just five weeks in.
Renovating a resort on Phillip Island for the 20th anniversary series, this latest batch of contestants have been dropped into a ‘pressure cooker’.
Now, a source inside the Channel Nine renovation hit has exclusively told Daily Mail Australia on Wednesday at least one of the couples may split before the auction.
‘We don’t always know how others see our relationships and this season I think at least 3 out of the 5 new teams will be quite horrified at their behaviour,’ they said.
‘A lot of their behaviour is quite polarising. I wouldn’t be surprised if not all the couples make it to the auction without splitting.’
The source added: ‘The conflict is really contained within each house this season and not with their competing neighbours.’
The Block 2023 faced harsh criticism, with complaints made to ACMA that Channel Nine glorified bullying as the teams clashed fiercely.
However the insider said that approach won’t be changing any time soon.

‘The Block will always have conflict and watching the different ways each contestant deals with the drama is what has kept this show on television for 20 years.’
The insider went on to say some of the fights between the couples were ‘a tad cringe’ and ‘immature’, with their attitudes towards one another raising alarms.
One married couple in particular, parents Kylie and Brad who share four children under ten, are said to be the worst of the bunch.
‘Kylie and Brad are going to find watching the show back quite uncomfortable – as they really have a unique way of speaking to each other,’ the source said.
‘Producers really pull back and let contestants behave as they choose.
‘However, when [Kylie and Brad] asked if they would face backlash they were told they will be the most relatable team of the season because they were not censoring themselves.’

The on-set insider continued: ‘The Block really shows the dirt under the fingernails when it comes to the dynamics between these new contestants.
‘It’s fly-on the-wall television at its best watching the latest bunch navigate the trials and tribulations of building a house over 12 weeks.
‘Like Married at First Sight, the tension between each couple is compelling and it’s the most engaging when the couples are at odds with each other.
‘There are plenty of good moments but it’s the contrast of comparing everyone’s relationships that makes this show fascinating.’
Rumours of a couple splitting on the show comes after executive producer Julian Cress confirmed on Wednesday one team will leave the series in week five.
It’s not the first time contestants have quit the ‘brutal’ reality TV show, but it is the first time they’ve thrown in the towel so late into construction, reported TV Tonight.

While it hasn’t been confirmed yet which team will walk off site for good, Julian insisted the couple remain appreciative of Network Nine for the opportunity.
‘They’re awesome. We’re all friends. They do make a return to the show before it’s over,’ the executive producer said.
‘They’re very glad for all the support they were given, and believe that they made the right decision.
‘The feedback we’ve had so far since the promos have been on has been fantastic.’
The Block: Island will premiere on Nine and 9Now Monday at 7:30pm.
