Disney+ released a new Aussie series last week called The Artful Dodger, which is a fresh take on the Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist, set in Australia in the 1850s.
Viewers have quickly become captivated by the irreverent take on the classic novel, which stars English actor Thomas Brodie-Sangster, 33, as the title character.
Fans have taken to social media to gush over its gripping story, incredible performances by Thomas and Aussie actress Maia Mitchell, 30, and eye-popping period accuracy.
‘Maia and Thomas’ acting in the show is on top. The last ep completely wrecked me… Beautiful writing plus amazing acting = bawling my eyes on the floor,’ one emotional fan wrote.

Set in 1850s Australia, it follows the adventures of one-time teen thief Jack Dawkins, also known as ‘The Artful Dodger’, 15-years after the story of the Dickens novel ended.
In the series, Jack now practices as a surgeon in the colony of Port Victory.

The story centres on what happens when Jack’s former gang-leader arrives in Australia to lure his former pickpocketing protégé back into a life of crime.
Joining The Queen’s Gambit star Brodie-Sangster in the action-filled series is veteran British favourite David Thewlis (Harry Potter) from the Netflix drama The Sandman.
Thewlis plays Dickens’ iconic Fagin character, once a key ally of The Artful Dodger, after they once led a gang of thieves in the slums of London.
Wentworth star Susie Porter is also featured, along side fan favourite Kym Gyngell (Black Snow), Jack Irish star Damien Garvey and Jessica De Gouw.
The Artful Dodger is now streaming on Disney+
