Tekashi 6ix9ine Claims Demi Lovato Will Relapse Seven Years Post-Overdose

Tekashi 6ix9ine has shockingly joked that Demi Lovato is going to relapse – seven years after her near-fatal fentanyl overdose.

Lovato, 33, is now sober after suffering a near-fatal heroin and fentanyl overdose in July 2018, but during an appearance on Andie Elle’s podcast, Tekashi – real name Daniel Hernandez – talked about the songstress breaking her years-long sobriety.

The controversial rapper made the cruel remarks about Lovato when the conversation veered towards her past substance abuse. ‘She’s clean. Like she’s sober,’ host Elle said.

‘She’s gonna relapse,’ Tekashi said. ‘Let’s send her a gift. Let’s send her some…’

What exactly he wanted to send her was bleeped out but it appeared to be drugs, as he followed it up with, ‘Make her relapse.’

But the rapper has since insisted to TMZ the comments were intended as ‘dark humor’: ‘Dark humor is going extinct,’ he told the publication. ‘People in this new generation are just overly sensitive,’ he added.

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for 6ix9ine and Lovato for comment.

On social media, Tekashi – who has faced his own troubles with the law, including time behind bars following a conviction in connection with racketeering, drug trafficking and weapons charges  – was criticized over the remarks.

‘He’s not funny for that, that’s really insensitive. recovery is a huge thing and I’m so proud of Demi,’ another posted.

‘He try to call talking sh*t, dark humor. First off, for it to be dark humor, a majority of people have to actually think you’re funny, which they don’t. So, it’s just talking sh*t. Chickens come home to roost for people like this, see it all the time,’ one person said.

‘demi is 7 years sober and living her best life as she was given a second chance to, whereas we don’t give a f**k about that irrelevant mess of a man,’ another posted.

‘He reminds me of those people that comment hateful things under posts of people achieving something great,’ another said.

‘Not funny,’ another merely said.

In 2021, Lovato – who goes by they/them/she/her pronouns – revealed that she was just minutes away from death when her assistant found her on the night of her overdose, telling CBS Sunday Morning that ‘if no one had found her, she wouldn’t be here’.

The traumatic overdose – which occurred after Lovato took heroin that was laced with fentanyl during a night out – left her legally blind and with brain damage, and the singer suffered a heart attack and three strokes while in hospital.

When asked by a producer whether she was ‘entirely sober now’, Lovato admitted that she had been ‘smoking weed and drinking in moderation’, after struggling to come to terms with the idea that she might never be able to ‘get some relief’ from a substance again. (She has since gone completely sober).

Lovato also explained the daily steps she was taking to keep her addiction in check – noting that she was aware many of her struggles with drugs and with her eating disorder have come as a result of her ongoing depression.

‘I deal with depression on a level that most people probably never understand, which is why I’ve always turned to drugs, to an eating disorder, because all of these things stop me from taking that permanent step,’ she says, referring to suicidal thoughts.

‘I’m constantly talking about it and I’m constantly open about it, and that way I’m not waiting till the last minute and I’m suicidal to get help. Getting ahead of the curve and being proactive, taking steps that are going to put safety precautions in place.’

One of those safety precautions was regular injections of Vivitrol – a substance that blocks opiate receptors, and prevents patients from getting high if they take any kind of opioid medication or drug.

While Lovato insisted that she ‘doesn’t ever want to touch heroin again’, she explained that she will continue to get the Vivitrol shots to further remove any hint of temptation that she might experience.

‘Do I ever want to touch heroin again? No. Do I think I will? Absolutely not. But I still get it just because at least for a few years it can’t hurt me,’ she said.

When asked how she knows she won’t relapse, Lovato referred back to her overdose, explaining that the ‘scariest thing’ for her was coming to the realization that heroin would no longer give her enough of a high – because she had overdosed on something stronger, which nearly killed her.

‘The one slip up that I ever had with those drugs again, the scariest thing to me was picking up heroin and realizing, wow, this isn’t strong enough anymore because what I had done the night I overdosed was fentanyl. And that… that’s a whole other beast,’ she explained.

‘Realizing the high I wanted would kill me was what I needed to get me clean for good.

‘I have full faith that you’re not going to open up TMZ and see another overdose headline. But I also say this with humility that this is a very powerful disease and I’m not going to pretend like I’m invincible. I have to work every day to make sure that I’m in a good place so that I don’t go do those things.

‘Time and trust is the only thing that will work for people and over time you’ll see that I’m good. You can’t change someone’s mind who thinks that I’m a junkie and I will always be one. I’ll just have to show them differently.

‘I’ve had a lot of lives, I’m on my ninth life. And I don’t know how many opportunities I have left. It’s interesting, life ebbs and flows, it’s fluid and I’m fluid, and that’s all I know.’

Since the heartbreaking incident, Lovato’s life has completely changed – earlier this year she tied the knot with Jordan Lutes.
