Ted Lasso stars Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt enjoy a break from filming season four as they watch Chelsea’s first leg defeat to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup at Stamford Bridge

With filming for the fourth season of Ted Lasso well underway, it may come as a surprise that its titular star may need some pointers for Richmond FC.

But that certainly seemed to be the case, as stars Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt were among the spectators at Chelsea’s first leg defeat to Arsenal in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

No doubt one of many Hollywood names who are pals with owner Todd Boehly, Jason was seen watching on from one of the boxes at Stamford Bridge as the Blues lost 3-2 in the first leg of their semi-final tie.

During the match, Jason was seen chatting to Brendan, who plays Coach Beard in the Apple TV+ series.

Tuesday’s match was the first at home for Chelsea’s new manager Liam Rosenior, but while hopes were high after their FA Cup victory on Saturday, these were quickly evaporated by a goal from Ben White in the seventh minute.

While they pushed back, the first leg finished 3-2, and with Arsenal favourites to win the Premier League in May, it was clear they’ll face a huge task when they travel to The Emirates for the second leg on February 3.

Filming for the fourth season of Ted Lasso kicked off late last year, with its renewal coming as a surprise to fans after many thought its third run, released in 2023, would be the last.

In addition to the returning cast of Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Brendan, Jeremy Swift and Juno Temple, Sex Education star Tanya Reynolds as well as Adolescence’s Faye Marsay have also joined.

Jude Mack, Abbie Hern, Grant Feely, Rex Hayes and Aisling Sharkey have also been confirmed to appear.

The logline for the season reads: ‘Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team.

‘Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.’

Four months earlier, Jason confirmed there will be a season four of Ted Lasso while appearing on Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Heights.

‘Ted’s coaching a women’s team, so there, that’s it,’ the actor teased.

Lasso, the American football-turned soccer coach played by Jason, had coached fictional Premier League side AFC Richmond in the first three seasons of the show.

In response to Sudeikis’s revelation for season four, Travis asked if that meant Lasso would be returning to his native US.

‘That’s too many questions,’ Jason playfully replied, before noting he didn’t actually know the answer himself.

Jason added that coming up with a new season was both ‘exciting’ and ‘daunting.’

‘Because we told the story we wanted to tell, but there’s more there and it is a neat group of people to work with,’ he said.
