Taylor Swift’s ‘Real Love’ Post to Selena Gomez Resurfaces After Engagement

Taylor Swift once tweeted her best friend Selena Gomez about finding ‘real love,’ and the tweet has resurfaced now that they are both in their bride-to-be eras.

On Tuesday, Swift, 35, announced that she was newly betrothed to her NFL star beau Travis Kelce, 35, with photos from their engagement photoshoot.

Following the exciting news, one particular, public exchange between the famous gal pals has gone viral.

Over a decade ago, the Love Story singer responded to a tweet that Gomez, 33, had made, gushing about having had a wholesome conversation about love with young children while abroad. 

The Disney star — whose wedding to Benny Blanco is anticipated to occur the forthcoming weeks — was filming Ramona and Beezus in Vancouver in 2009 when she tweeted: ‘Discussing love with two 9 yr olds. That’s what love [is] supposed to be. Truly amazing, I’m never leading Canada.’

Swift replied with love advice to Gomez, who was reportedly freshly single at the time after a fling with Taylor Lautner — who Swift also dated later that same year — right before she went on to kickstart her famous, on-off relationship with Justin Bieber.

Swift tweeted to her best friend: ‘Real love still happens sometimes. It’s not just something we make up when we’re nine. I have to believe that. You do too.’ 

The pop superstar’s engagement news comes just weeks ahead of Gomez’s wedding to Benny Blanco, which has left fans raving about how the longtime besties are now going through the same stages of life together.

Gomez was letting loose on a yacht in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico over the weekend during what was rumored to be her bachelorette party — though Swift did not appear to be present. 

Less than a year ago, Gomez got engaged to Blanco when the music producer proposed to her in December 2024. 

Recently, Gomez opened up about how they met when they both dated members of the Jonas Brothers and became close friends after bonding over their respective breakups. (Gomez previously dated Nick Jonas, while Swift dated Joe Jonas.)

She gushed about the singer as she discussed how the genesis of their relationship came through their famous ex-boyfriends when they were teenagers over a decade ago. 

While making an appearance on a podcast episode of Therapuss with Jake Shane, she also recalled how Swift once played her ‘one of the most beautiful songs ever’ before releasing the track and going on to win multiple awards. 

On the podcast, the former Disney star recalled when she dated Nick, 32, during the same time Swift was dating Nick’s older brother Joe, 35. 

‘It was cute,’ she began. ‘We were young. We all know and love each other now and it’s so cute.’ 

‘We don’t know what we were doing. She and I like to say the best thing we got out of those relationships was each other because it was really sweet’. 

Gomez continued: ‘I was about 15 she was about 18 and that’s when it was the crazy curly Taylor and she had all these bracelets that went all the way up,’ she recalled. 

‘I believe Love Story was the first song she had ever played me and it wasn’t released yet,’ she said about Swift’s 2008 country pop hit Love Story, which went on to receive eight awards from 13 nominations. 

‘Yeah, I was in a hotel room and I remember it vividly, it was just one of those songs I instantly heard and thought this is one of the most beautiful songs ever,’ Gomez gushed about the singer-songwriter. 

She said that after their respective breakups with the two members of the Jonas Brothers they were dating, they became close friends. 

‘So, at that age we became best friends, bonded over the breakup,’ the Only Murders in the Building star continued. 

‘As girls do, and then we, I don’t know and then we just stuck around for all the ups and downs that came after and here we are now 16 years later’. 

‘Wow, I can’t believe you heard Love Story before it was released,’ the podcast host Jake Shane chimed in, to which Gomez responded, ‘I know it was so sweet. 

‘She was like, “OK, I just want to play you this song, but just like, you know, I don’t know. It’s going to be the first single, I think, I think”‘. 

Gomez said she was in awe ‘just hearing her say those little thoughts and just listening to it.’ 

She added about her longtime friend: ‘Yeah, she is a chameleon. She’s incredible.’
