Taylor Swift’s The Official Release Party of a Showgirl squashed Dwayne Johnson’s The Smashing Machine for the top spot at this weekend‘s box office.
The movie from the Grammy-winning songstress, 35, was accompanied by a series of promotions in support of her latest studio album, The Life of a Showgirl.
The accompanying theatrical event – which received an A+ rating on Cinemascore – garnered $33 million in domestic box office sales between Friday and Sunday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Also tabulating $13 million in international revenues, The Official Release Party of a Showgirl took in a stellar $46 million over the early October weekend box office, marking another huge win for the Anti-Hero artist.
Johnson, 53, collaborated with director Benny Safdie, 42, and actress Emily Blunt, 39, on The Smashing Machine.
The sports drama made a paltry $6 million at the weekend box office, marking ‘the worst wide start of [Johnson’s] career,’ THR reported.

The Official Release Party of a Showgirl aired at all 540 AMC theaters chains over the weekend, the theatrical chain said in a news release.
‘Audiences will see the exclusive world premiere of the music video, “The Fate of Ophelia,” along with behind-the-scenes footage from the music video shoot, the theater chain said.
AMC also said the Official Release Party of a Showgirl would feature ‘brand new lyric videos, and Taylor’s never-before-seen personal reflections on songs from her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl.’
The Fortnight singer’s 89-minute release was also screening at Regal and Cinemark theaters in North America as well, People reported.
The motion picture Grow had previously relocated release dates so as not to compete with Swift and her massive fan base.
Blunt plays Kerr’s ex-wife Dawn Staples, in the biographical drama, which was penned and direct directed by Safdie.
Despite The Smashing Machine’s slow start, THR noted Johnson’s performance as professional MMA fighter Mark Kerr has been ‘praised as potentially Oscar worthy.’
A number of factors pointed to the notion that The Smashing Machine might feature some of Johnson’s best ever-work on the silver screen.

The film got a 15 minute standing ovation at September’s Venice International Film Festival.
Johnson in August spoke with Vanity Fair about the performing complex role in August, admitting it made him anxious – something he hadn’t experienced ‘in a very, very, very long time.’
Johnson noted that he had been ‘too scared to explore this stuff’ until stepping into the shoes of Kerr for the film.
‘You have to be willing to tap into all the stuff that you’ve gone through, and this was stuff that I had not explored on camera or otherwise,’ Johnson said.
