Taylor Swift Inspires Pop Star to Re-Record Songs and Reclaim Her Work

Rachel Platten has taken inspiration from Taylor Swift and announced she will be re-recording her songs in order to ‘reclaim’ her work.

The Fight Song crooner, 44, revealed she’ll be releasing re-recorded versions of some of her hits on Monday via Instagram.

Her Wildfire album songs, including ‘Fight Song’ and ‘Stand By You’, will be getting a ‘Rachel’s Version’, in a move inspired by Swift’s ‘Taylor’s Version’ re-recordings.

In her announcement Platten also credited Swift for inspiring her to take on the task.

‘I’m grateful to Taylor Swift for bringing this conversation to light and empowering artists to take back control over their work, their stories, and their futures,’ she wrote in a lengthy caption.

Swift has been releasing re-recorded albums since 2021, in order to regain control of her music catalog, after her original master recordings were sold without her consent. However, the singer finally bought back her masters earlier this year for a reported $360 million.

Platten also shared her new project’s black-and-white cover art with the title Fight Song (Rachel’s Version).

‘I’m proud to announce that on 9/26, I’m releasing a new album with my own, “Rachel’s Versions,” of Fight Song, Stand By You and other songs from my album Wildfire. Fight Song (Rachel’s Version), will also include some live songs and a surprise from the vault,’ she wrote in the announcement.

‘I had no idea when I wrote these songs in moments of vulnerability that they would go on to change my life.’

‘For a decade, they’ve lived out in the world, carrying their own weight. They’ve been parts of your moments of strength, doubt, and connection.’

She went on: ‘Now, as we celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Fight Song, I’ve gone back to some of my originals, not to change them, but to reclaim them.’

‘This is about more than just new versions of old songs; the new Rachel’s Versions are infused with the voice I have now, the wisdom I’ve gained, and the undeniable pride of owning my own masters.’

‘Thank you to the immensely talented original producer of Wildfire, @JonLevine, for joining me again to re-record these songs.’

She wrapped up the caption writing: ‘And most importantly, thank you to all of you, who have stood by me over these years. I can’t wait for you to hear them again—this time, fully, completely, and unapologetically mine.’

Rachel also announced a special one-night performance to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her song Fight Song in another post.

While Platten is just starting her journey to reclaim ownership of her music, Swift has recently completed hers.

In May, the Grammy winner penned a lengthy letter on her website to share the big news – after purchasing her music catalog from Shamrock Capital, which had acquired the rights from Scooter Braun one year earlier.

She acquired her first six studio albums and associated visuals from their most recent owner, Shamrock Capital, for an undisclosed nine-figure sum.

‘To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it,’ the star wrote.

She said the fact she now owns the rights to all the music she has ever made has brought so much joy to her life she’s been bursting into tears.

‘I haven’t gotten my hopes up about this in a decade. A couple months after the Super Bowl I was in Kansas City,’ Swift said, adding she had been saving to buy her masters since she was a teenager.

‘I get a call from my mom. She’s like, “You got your music.” I very dramatically hit the floor for real. Bawling my eyes out, weeping, like “Really?” I said to myself “Go tell Travis in a normal way.”

‘He was playing video games, and he put his headset down. I was like “I got my music back!” And I was heaving crying. This changed my life.’
