Taylor Sheridan’s Surprising Career Move Before Leaving Paramount

While Taylor Sheridan is leaving Paramount, he still has a major upcoming project for the studio: the film adaptation of the popular video game franchise Call of Duty.

Sheridan is collaborating on the project for Paramount and Actionvision with Peter Berg, who will also direct the motion picture.

The high-profile project comes as Sheridan has announced his plans to take his talents from Paramount to NBC Universal in 2029.

In the years between then and now, Sheridan and Paramount will seek to establish a lucrative live-action film franchise around the video game staple.

Sheridan is the mastermind behind the lucrative Western franchise Yellowstone, which inspired the spinoff shows 1883 and 1923.

The prolific television creator has also developed shows such as Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Landman and Lioness.

Sheridan also got an Academy Award nomination in 2017 for penning the script for the 2016 film Hell or High Water.

Other screenwriting credits to Sheridan’s name include Wind River, Sicario, Sicario: Day of the Soldado.

Call of Duty is an Activision-published property owned by Microsoft.

The Call of Duty franchise has released more than 30 mainline games in the 22 years since the initial video game’s 2003 debut.

More than 500 million copies of the video game have been sold globally since its release.

The plans to develop a motion picture around the top-selling video game franchise were publicly announced in September.

Insiders told Variety that Paramount might look to take the Call of Duty franchise to television, as well.

No storylines have been revealed for the nascent film, which is based off the military-themed first person shooter video game, according to the outlet.

It comes amid the proliferation of a number of successful video game-themed film franchises such as Minecraft and Super Mario Bros., with Paramount cashing in with their Sonic the Hedgehog-based projects.

Sheridan and Berg are longtime friends and have collaborated on projects such as the aforementioned Hell or High Water and Wind River.

Sheridan had been debating about just writing the script or producing the film, but ultimately decided to take on both responsibilities, sources told Deadline.

Berg was brought into the fold at Sheridan’s behest earlier this month, insiders told the outlet.
