Sabrina Carpenter’s racy new song Taste dropped to a resounding fanfare on Friday – and now the real meaning behind it has been revealed.
The music video, in which she shares steamy kiss with Jenna Ortega, got more than 1.5 million on YouTube in just three hours.
Meanwhile the lyrics tell a story that may shed some light on Sabrina’s own love life, as they reveal saucy details about an ex-boyfriend.
Rumors are flying that Sabrina, 25, split from movie star Barry Keoghan, 31, just weeks ago, so she presumably wrote the song before their breakup – although it has also been claimed they had an ‘on and off’ romance.
Although she does not name any particular man in the lyrics for Taste, she tells a juicy story about an ex who has gotten back together with a previous flame.

Sabrina’s lyrics are addressed to the woman his ex has reignited his old romance with, and her message to her love rival is scathing.
‘I heard you’re back together and if that’s true, you’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissin’ you,’ she taunts the other woman in the chorus.
Sabrina also reveals that she raided her ex’s wardrobe before she broke up, so that half his clothes are gone and now ‘My body’s where they’re at.’
She witheringly sounds off the on-again girlfriend: ‘Now I’m gone, but you’re still layin’ next to me, one degree of separation.’
Sabrina even gives herself credit for her old beau’s sense of humor, noting: ‘Hе’s funny, now all his jokes hit different. Guеss who he learned that from?’
She mercilessly sticks the knife in: ‘Every time you close your eyes, and feel his lips, you’re feelin’ mine. And every time you breathe his air, just know I was already there. You can have him if you like – I’ve been there, done that once or twice.’
In the music video Sabrina and her co-star Jenna Ortega are depicted fighting over a man played by Rohan Campbell, who starred in Halloween Ends.
The competing girlfriends rip each other to pieces in the riotously pulpy video, which is apparently inspired by Quentin Tarantino’s movies.

There was also at one point a rash of rumors connecting Sabrina to YouTuber David Dobrik, who is pictured attending the 2021 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards
Death Becomes Her, the 1992 camp classic starring Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn as two immortal women in a hilariously grisly feud, also seems to be an influence.
In the Taste video, Sabrina and Jenna are locked in a bloody battle of wills that gets more and more gruesome – but find time for a steamy lip-lock in the process.
Their kiss turns out to be a feint, as the second they break apart Jenna drives a massive buzz-saw into Sabrina’s midsection, spraying blood over her dress.
Sabrina first saw her dating life become a hot topic during the summer of 2020, when she was rumored to be in a love triangle with Joshua Bassett and his High School Musical: The Musical: The Series co-star Olivia Rodrigo.
The following year, Olivia poured fuel on the fire by releasing her runaway smash hit single Driver’s License, which was widely thought to be about Joshua and Sabrina.
‘And you’re probably with that blonde girl, who always made me doubt. She’s so much older than me,’ sang Olivia, who is nearly four years younger than Sabrina.
In the interim, Sabrina has at various stages been linked to such names as pop act Shawn Mendes, Teen Wolf actor Dylan O’Brien and YouTuber David Dobrik.
Taste comes on the heels of rumors that Sabrina has dumped her latest boyfriend, Saltburn hunk Barry Keoghan, over his ‘party animal’ lifestyle.

Barry and Sabrina were linked late last year, as he became a Hollywood heartthrob for his smoldering performance in Saltburn.
They confirmed they were an item at a Grammys party in February, but they largely refrained from discussing each other in public.
Last week, a source claimed they had broken up about three weeks prior because she had grown exasperated with the way he behaves under the influence.
‘Barry acts like an idiot when he is drunk and Sabrina was getting increasingly frustrated,’ an insider claimed of the split.
‘He has always been a party animal and Sabrina was fed up with his antics. She is soaring in the charts and is putting herself first as she gears up for her tour next month,’ the source added to The Sun.

Shortly thereafter an insider explained that Barry and Sabrina have conducted an ‘on and off’ relationship, according to People magazine.
Sabrina allegedly first met Barry in September 2023, months before reports started swirling that he had split from his longtime girlfriend Alyson Kierans.
Alyson and Barry, who welcomed a son called Brando in August 2022, are thought to have broken up over the summer of last year.
A source told The Sun Barry’s ‘partying caused arguments’ between the pair, who had ‘grown apart over recent months and things have finally come to a head.’
When Barry was asked about the split in GQ early this year, he said only that Alyson had ‘done a great job and she’s an incredible mother.’
