Glen Powell has finally admitted he and Sydney Sweeney ‘leaned into’ their romance rumors in order to drum up hype for their rom com Anyone But You.
In the run-up to the movie’s release, Glen, 35, and Sydney, 26, were hounded by speculation that they had indulged in an on-set affair.
The conjecture carried a whiff of scandal because at that time, Sydney was already engaged to her longtime love Jonathan Davino.
Now Glen has confessed that he and Sydney purposely allowed the rumors to flourish in order to help their movie at the box office.
He pointed out that the gambit ‘worked wonderfully,’ as the movie was a smash hit, and he added to the New York Times: ‘Sydney is very smart.’

The Hollywood Adonis, whose movies include Top Gun: Maverick, explained: ‘The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry.’
He noted: ‘Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry. That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit – and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.’
Sydney, who was an executive producer on Anyone But You, shared that she ‘was on every call’ that involved promoting the film.
‘I was in text group chats. I was probably keeping everybody over at Sony marketing and distribution awake at night because I couldn’t stop with ideas.
The busty blonde bombshell dished: ‘I wanted to make sure that we were actively having a conversation with the audience as we were promoting this film, because at the end of the day, they’re the ones who created the entire narrative.’
Anyone But You stars Sydney and Glen as two people who went on one date that ended in disaster, leaving them both lastingly contemptuous of each other.
However, when their respective sisters start dating and then get engaged, Sydney and Glen’s characters are forced into each other’s company for the wedding.
In order to prevent their families from meddling in their love lives, they then start pretending that they are in fact a couple.

The film bowed three days before Christmas and was a galloping box office success, despite earning a tepid reaction from the critics.
Shortly before Anyone But You was released, Glen publicly addressed the rumors that he and Sydney had an affair while making the film.
‘When all that stuff happened, you know, publicly, it felt disorienting and unfair,’ Glen told Men’s Health. ‘But what I’m realizing is, that’s just a part of this gig now.’
Online wags had already started theorizing that the speculation itself had been a publicity stunt to drum up interest in the movie.
Sydney responded to the conjecture in Glamour UK, claiming that both she and Glen had been emotionally affected by all the chatter.
‘It was really hard on Glen, which made me sad… because [otherwise] it was such a beautiful experience for the both of us,’ she said. ‘I care for him so much.’
She also allowed for the possibility that the interest was fueled by the fact she has been so studiously private about her relationship with Jonathan.
‘Also, I’ve never really shared that much [about my relationship], so the press loves to create drama in stories,’ said the White Lotus actress.
Sydney has been involved for the past six years with a businessman called Jonathan Davino, who is more than 10 years older than her.
Glen spent more than three years dating model Gigi Paris, but last April a source informed Entertainment Tonight of their ‘amicable’ split.
