Swift Fans SLAM Double Standard on Chalamet at Knicks Games

Taylor Swift fans are expressing outrage over the double standard in public reactions to her attending sports games versus Timothée Chalamet. 

While the two-time Oscar nominee, 29, has been warmly embraced for cheering on the New York Knicks during their playoff run, the pop star, 35, has endured merciless criticism for supporting her boyfriend Travis Kelce. 

Unlike Swift, who gets accused of taking attention away from the athletes and monopolizing screen time, NBA fans have warmly welcomed the Wonka star and praised him for being a courtside staple at Madison Square Garden.

Watching the native New Yorker receive applause for his longtime devotion to Knicks fans has left some Swifties stunned—especially after the Grammy winner was loudly booed by thousands at Super Bowl LIX back in February. 

‘Timothee Chalamet showing up for all the Knicks playoff games is genuinely sick and I love all that content but it’s kinda sad to compare the public’s reaction to that vs Taylor Swift attending her boyfriend’s games,’ one X user tweeted.

In a TikTok video, which has been viewed 13,600 times, a woman, who goes by the username @DeTurner, asked social media users to explain the ‘difference’ between  Swift and Chalamet cheering on their respective teams.

‘I recognize that these are two very different scenarios. Taylor is only there because her boyfriend is on the team. Meanwhile, Timothée was born and raised in New York and I know he’s a die-hard Knicks fan,’ she began. 

The TikToker went on to point out that the amount of screen time Chalamet has been receiving at games, particularly since the playoffs, has been ‘excessive.’

Despite his frequent reactions being broadcast, even during away games, @DeTurner argued that the ‘whole internet’ isn’t complaining like they do when Swift attends a Chiefs games. 

‘I’m just curious—where is this energy with Timothée?’ she asked. 

The question sparked a large debate in the comments section as many weighed in on why the Blank Space hitmaker is so polarizing to the NFL. 

‘Yeah it’s the NFL fans being weird and more toxic. NBA Fans don’t care. Never got the hate for t-swift she seems to be enjoying the sport and supporting her bf so good on her,’ one commented. 

Another wrote: ‘The only difference is men hate women.’

‘One is a die-hard fan, the other is dating a player. Timothée is also in the seats not in a private box. There’s video of him celebrating with Knicks fans in NY. So it’s his genuine love of the team and he isn’t constantly shown,’ a third conjectured. 

‘Tim has been a fan forever and his connection to the Knicks has nothing to do with his romantic entanglements, additionally they don’t cut to him every 5 seconds and everytime a specific player touches the ball,’ a fourth argued. 

Numerous Swifties called the hate against the performer ‘blatant misogyny’ and a way for some men to prevent women from ‘invading and enjoying their sport.’  

Others joked that Chalamet has become ‘the NBA equivalent of T-Swift.’

Chalamet, who is dating Kylie Jenner, has attended every game in the Eastern Conference Finals so far. 

His love for the team long predates his rise to fame as a lovestruck teenager in Luca Guadagnino’s 2017 coming-of-age film Call Me by Your Name. 

When he was just 14, the actor won a Knicks ticket giveaway by answering trivia questions in a contest with former players Landry Fields and Andy Rautins. 

Earlier this month, Chalamet even managed to get his girlfriend Kylie and her sister Kendall Jenner, both Angelenos and lifelong Lakers fans, to cheer on the Knicks.

He even skipped the Met Gala this year to watch the Knicks play the Celtics from home. 

Meanwhile, Swift grew up a Philadelphia Eagles fan and is from West Reading, Pennsylvania, which is near Philadelphia. 

Since going public with her romance with Kelce, who has played for the Chiefs for 12 seasons, in September 2023, she has attended 22 Kansas City Chiefs games. 

The musician has been quite the lucky charm for the team, as they have a record of 19–3 in those games. 

As a reference to her relationship with Kelce, Swift even changed the lyrics to her hit track, Karma, to ‘Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me’ during a number of her shows on the Eras Tour.

In late 2023, she told Time that she ‘loves’ seeing him ‘do what he loves’ on the field.

‘We’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,’ she declared. ‘The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.’ 

When asked about how her presence at NFL games has upset some viewers, Swift explained: ‘You have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once. I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and p**sing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.’
