Suzanne Shaw Opens Up About Shocking Breakup

Suzanne Shaw has confessed the 'rug was pulled from under her feet' as she detailed her shock break up and reflected on finding self love since becoming a grandma. 

The former Hear'Say star, 44, broke down in tears in February as she detailed her 'messy and unexpected' break up from fiancé Sam Greenfield after 11 years together.

But last week happier news came as she shared her joy after revealing she had become a grandma after her son Corey's girlfriend Erin gave birth to a baby boy called Colton.  

Now, Suzanne has shared an update with fans about how she is now 'starting to come out the other side' of her rollercoaster year, lifting the lid on the months following the break up. 

In the clip, shared on her Instagram on Saturday, Suzanne appeared to suggest her break up from ex-fiancé Sam was sudden. 

She said: 'My god what a year. On New Year's Eve, I wrote in my journal how grateful I was for everything in my life, my family, the adventures that we were about to go on in my relationship and how in love I was and how excited I was for our future. 

'And 24 hours later, not even 24 hours later, the rug got pulled from underneath my feet. 

'I just couldn't believe it. Then there was one thing that I wrote in the journal that was, "I am ready to go on this beautiful, messy adventure that is life". 

'And my God, did it focus on the messy. Really focus on it, and it has been so difficult and painful, but I've just been so grateful that I've implemented all I know into myself, all the self love.'

Turning her attention to the arrival of her grandson, Suzanne continued: 'Every single day, I am trying to give myself the highest quality of love I can possibly give, and I'm really starting to feel the benefits of it. 

'And plus, I've become a grandma. Oh, it's so amazing. My grandson is so beautiful, and I can't stop doting on him, and that's brought a lot of joy and love into my life that I really needed. 

'But yeah, he is amazing and just starting to feel just a bit better, but I am loving having the greatest love affair with myself, not having to compromise anything.'

Suzanne shared last month that she and Darren Day had become grandparents after their son Corey . 

Taking to Instagram to share the happy news, she revealed Corey's girlfriend Erin had given birth to a son called Colton as she . 

While their relationship was turbulent to say the least when they split back in 2005, Suzanne and Darren, 57, have buried the hatchet as they put on a united front while smiling with the newborn.

Darren and Suzanne had an illicit fling back in 2003 while co-starring in the touring theatre production of Summer Holiday, despite both being engaged to other people.  

However Darren's reputation and career took a major nose dive after he walked out on the singer and their seven-week old son Corey on Mother's Day in 2005, as she battled postnatal , reportedly uttering the phrase 'I don't do family.'

Now embarking on a new chapter as grandparents, Darren joked about the former couple's age gap as he penned: 'Grandad loves you so much…and is actually old enough to be a Grandparent, unlike Nanny! @suzi_shaw'.

Meanwhile Suzanne was overcome with emotion as she wrote: 'Something beautiful, something true, My baby boy Corey, became a father To a precious son, wrapped softly in blue.'

She added: 'Colton - Nanny loves you to infinity and back, you are perfect. I might not have reading glasses quite yet (like your grandad), but can’t wait to teach you handstands and cartwheels'.

The comment section was flooded with love from Suzanne's friends as fellow Hear'Say member Kym Marsh wrote: 'This is wonderful!!! Welcome to the grandparent club!!! You’re gonna love it'. 

Myleene Klass added: 'Huge congrats x' while Nat Anderson penned: 'How beautiful!!! Huge congratulations to you all lovely.'

Darren and Suzanne ended up dating for around 18 months and were engaged, but split just three months after the birth of Corey.

The former Hollyoaks star was reported at the time to have left Suzanne, saying: 'I don't do family'.

Speaking about it on Vanessa Feltz's Channel 5 show last year, Suzanne revealed that her ex 'pretty much went out to get a curry and didn’t come back' and said the fact she developed postnatal depression was 'no surprise'.

However the pair have been on good terms for years as co-parents to their son. 

Darren went on to marry Stephanie Dooley, who he eventually divorced in 2019, nine years after she took him back when he was caught .

He is now engaged to his current girlfriend Sophie Ladds, penning a gushing post to her on Valentine's Day. 

Suzanne broke down in tears as she detailed her 'messy and unexpected' breakup from fiancé Sam in an Instagram video in February.

Suzanne and Sam got engaged in 2014 and welcomed their son Rafferty in 2015. 

Confirming the pair split in January, Suzanne said she is glad she now has the tools to navigate a breakup sober, having .

She said: 'I've not been online for a little while because I've just been navigating some stuff in my life which is a breakup that I'm going through at the moment when I genuinely did not expect I'd be saying this out loud.

'It's been tough, it's been really tough and I wasn't actually even going to say anything online but I just thought like the nature of my account is all about mental health, my struggles with my mental health, quitting alcohol, changing my lifestyle, taking up running, all of the things that have just brought my stability.

'And now things have just taken a different road, taken a different path. It's been tricky but my goodness thank god I have got the tools to navigate this. And thank god it's been six years of not drinking, six years of really dedicating my life to my personal development.

'I've not been perfect through this and it's been a little bit messy but I've certainly been able to tap into therapy, I've been able to tap into meditation, a little bit of running, understanding that I need to eat well.

'And understanding that I need to just lean into this pain and heal and it is a new chapter of deep healing because for me, I am going into the era of having the greatest love affair with myself. 

'It was important for me to share this, it was important for me to close one chapter to move into the next.

'I've not known what to say since the start of January but here I am, nearly in March now ready to just go this journey of total true self healing and giving myself the highest quality of love that I should have done a long time ago.'

Two years before her engagement to Sam, Suzanne was married to Heart FM presenter Jason King, 51.

She married the radio presenter in 2009 until their separation in 2012.
