Filming for Survivor has been paused following a shocking accident that left one contestant with a partial leg amputation.

Stavros Floros, 21, reportedly suffered the injury while spearfishing off the coast of the Dominican Republic during a break from filming.

Citing local Greek authorities, the Toronto Sun reported that Floros was ‘diving without a surface marker buoy in an area frequented by tourist vessels’ when a passing boat ‘accidentally struck him.’

The beekeeper sustained ‘severe injuries to his legs from the vessel’s outboard engine propellers, including a partial amputation of the left leg and significant trauma to the right ankle,’ the outlet added.

AcunMedya, the company behind the series, confirmed an investigation has been launched.

‘From the very first moment, there was an immediate response to provide assistance and safely transport the injured contestant,’ it said per the Toronto Sun.

‘The competent port authorities are investigating the causes of the incident in order to fully determine the circumstances.’

The company also noted that Floros ‘remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition and is out of danger.’

Jeff Probst said in October: 'I still get asked all the time if Survivor is real'

'But for anyone who still wonders, that was a real sea krait, that was a real bite, and that was a very terrifying situation.’

During the current season 50, contestant Kyle Fraser was forced to bow out of the game after a brutal injury - he ruptured his Achilles tendon during an intense immunity challenge.

Fraser didn’t take the decision lying down.

‘I would’ve stayed. I argued with them for quite some time. Jeff will tell you. I mean, we argued for a long time. I told him I'm a lawyer, I'd sign a waiver. I want to stay out there because I think my tribe was definitely going to keep me,’ he told Entertainment Weekly in February.

But reality quickly set in once the severity of the injury was clear.

‘It was clear I needed to go,’ Fraser admitted, acknowledging that leaving, though painful, was the right call.
