Gunn told Variety in April 2023 that he was aiming for certain unexplored character traits for his incarnation of the famed character.
‘The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has but he’s also an alien,’ Gunn told the outlet. ‘It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.’
Corenswet follows in the footsteps of a number of high-profile names to commandeer the role of the comic book hero, such as the late Kirk Alyn, George Reeves and Christopher Reeve, as well as Brandon Routh and Cavill.
