After Queensland tiler Wade Kelly was named the Sunshine Coast’s Hottest Tradie, Karl Stefanovic had some probing questions for him.
On Friday’s edition of Today, the 49-year-old host interviewed Wade and his fiancée Bonnie with co-host Sarah Abo.
During the wild interview, Karl made a provocative comment about how appealing Wade might be after winning the competition: ‘Bonnie, you’re just going to keep an eye on him when he goes out to the surf club and whatnot.’
‘I’m not too fussed about it, Wade’s always had a lot of girlfriends since I’ve met him. I’m used to it, you know? Embrace it,’ the young woman calmly replied.
‘Let’s climb into that a little,’ Karl said jokingly before he and co-host Sarah Abo burst into laughter.

After Bonnie said the tradie was ‘handy and good-looking’, Karl made a provocative comment about how appealing Wade might be after winning the competition: ‘Bonnie, you’re just going to keep an eye on him when he goes out to the surf club and whatnot’
Earlier in the segment, Karl asked the couple other probing questions.
‘Bonnie, you know what at the end of the day, no matter how good-looking the dude is, you’ll find a beautiful partner who’s annoyed by him, right?’
To which Bonnie simply replied ‘yeah,’ causing Karl and Sarah laugh.
Co-host Sarah Abo and Karl then asked Bonnie to list some of her tradie boyfriend’s annoying habits, and she listed snoring and chewing.
‘I’m not too fussed about it, Wade’s always had a lot of girlfriends since I’ve met him. I’m used to it, you know? Embrace it,’ the young woman replied. ‘Let’s climb into that a little,’ Karl said jokingly before he and co-host Sarah Abo burst into laughter
The tradie also said that he won the competition because his friend ‘stitched him up’ after posting hundreds of photos of Wade on the website, to which Karl jokingly replied ‘do you think he’s got a crush on you?’
It comes as a television insider claims Stefanovic would have been aware of Michael Clarke’s trainwreck interview with A Current Affair before it aired earlier this week.
The former Australia cricket captain, 42, sat down with the Nine network program on Tuesday to spruik a new product from the Australian Bitters company.
But Clarke was instead peppered with questions about the infamous Noosa brawl involving his on-again-off-again girlfriend Jade Yarbrough which roped in her brother-in-law, Today show host Karl Stefanovic.
‘They would have consulted him [Karl], given they’re talking about the incident and he’s in the video, not that he did anything wrong,’ TV commentator Rob McKnight said.
‘The most that would have happened was maybe a phone call or a note was sent to Karl to advise him that the interview was happening or that it was going to air.
‘Karl would have had no say or involvement in the interview.
‘Nine certainly did minimise Karl’s involvement in the video, the first few minutes of the interview they were referring to him as ‘Clarke’s mate’.’
