Last month, Richard shared the sweet moment his daughter Olivia married her financier partner Florian Herbst, three years after losing his own wife Joan following a battle with lung cancer.

Olivia Grant, a casting associate whose film credits include last year’s record-breaking Barbie, exchanged vows with Herbst on Monday during a ceremony attended only by her father and the groom’s parents.

Confirming the news on X, formerly Twitter, Withnail & I star Grant, 67, revealed they celebrated the nuptials over a seafood dinner at Mayfair restaurant Scott’s before spending the night at The Ritz.

Captioning the post, he wrote: ‘Our beloved daughter @OliviaGranted married Florian Herbst yesterday in a Civil Ceremony with only his parents & me, present. Wedding breakfast at Scott’s & a truly spectacular dinner & suite sleepover. Royally treated!!’

The celebration comes three years after Grant’s wife of 35-years and Olivia’s mother Joan Washington died following a battle with stage four lung cancer.

Dialect coach Joan tragically passed away aged 75, eight months after she was diagnosed with the illness.

Grant confirmed his daughter’s engagement in October, with the actor sharing four images of Olivia, Herbst and her huge diamond ring.

He wrote: ‘Our beloved daughter @oliviagranted got engaged to Florian Herbst this weekend. Pockets full of Happiness!!’

Cambridge educated Herbst, an Austrian financier, currently works as Head of Corporate Finance at Village Hotels.

He graduated from Cambridge in 2014 with a bachelors degree in Land Economy, combining ‘law and economics with the environment, business, finance and resource management’.

Before moving to England, Herbst took a three-year bachelor of science degree in International Business at WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business).

Grant previously revealed the ‘amazing mantra’ he has lived by since the death of his late wife.

The actor told how his wife gave him words to live by in the days before she died which has helped him deal with the ‘abyss of grief’ ever since.

Speaking on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show with Helena Bonham Carter, he said: ‘She said to me four days before she died, she said to my daughter and I, “I know that you’re going to be sad but try and find a pocketful of happiness in each day”.

‘It’s been an amazing mantra to navigate the abyss of grief in the last 15 months and I’m grateful for that.’

Grant also told how he misses Joan more around the winter period during Christmas and their wedding anniversary in November.

Speaking in 2023, he told the Radio Times: ‘Our wedding anniversary is on 1 November; Joan’s birthday is on 21 December; there’s Christmas Day and then Olly’s [his nickname for his daughter Olivia] birthday is 4 January.

‘Last year, Olly and her partner Florian very generously invited me to Venice and then to visit his family in the south of Austria, which was absolutely magical.

Sting’s Child Eliot Sumner Falls in Love with Mother of Two

Eliot Sumner, who played a guard in the last James Bond film No Time To Die, has a new leading lady.

I can reveal that the actor, whose parents are rock superstar Sting and film producer Trudie Styler, has found love with a glamorous mother-of-two, Mollie Davis.

Eliot, who was born a girl but now identifies as non-binary, thanked Mollie this week for a birthday cake she gave the actor to celebrate turning 34.

In a photograph shared online, Eliot could be seen wearing a white vest and carrying the ‘charm cake’, which was created by baker Elizabeth Mayhew and decorated with some of the actor’s favourite things, including the Tower of Pisa.

One friend of the couple commented: ‘Wow Mollie! Talk about get to know your lover!

‘Eliot was born in Pisa, Eliot’s Signature Hat, Eliot’s Favourite Book (or one of) A Little Life.’

Eliot split up with society model Frankie Herbert last year.

Frankie, a granddaughter of the 7th Earl of Carnarvon, was one of the very few to have performed as a catwalk model in front of the late Queen Elizabeth.

The actor has explained of gender identity: ‘We should treat everybody the same. I don’t like to be put down to a specific thing. We’re all human beings.’

Eliot never officially came out: ‘No one ever asked. They [my friends and family] knew already. So I didn’t need to. I’ve never come out to anyone.’

Rustling of sweeties at the theatre would be a thing of the past if West End star Janie Dee had her way.

The actress, 62, who is appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe, says: ‘I’d like to see less packaging for bar snacks.

‘In Russia, you get rye bread with cream cheese and smoked salmon at the interval.

‘That would be wonderful.’ I think I’ll stick to my Werther’s Originals…

‘I buzzed my hair for it,’ says the 28-year-old. ‘They then put a bald cap on. I enjoyed the buzz.’

The smart set’s talking about…Tom Priestley’s poignant parting gift for his family

    J. B. PRIESTLEY reflected that he could — and did — enjoy ‘physical relations’ with lovers, who included the thrice-married Dame Peggy Ashcroft, without suffering the ‘guilt which seems to disturb’ some fellow eminent writers.

He even reputedly remarked to his illegitimate daughter, Mary, that he had slept with half the women in London.

Now, 40 years after the death of the An Inspector Calls playwright and author, who was also thrice-married and whose infidelities were perhaps even more prolific than his prodigious literary output, his only son, Tom, has done as much as anyone could to ensure serenity within a many layered family.

And he’s done so from beyond the grave…

In his will, published this week, seven months after his death at the age of 91, Tom, who was unmarried, stipulated that each of his 15 nephews and nieces were to receive an equal share of his £1 million British estate and an equal one, too, of his Moroccan estate, whose value is as yet unknown.

You could call it Tom’s final cut — displaying, as it does, the precision and judgment which earned him a brace of Baftas in a career as editor of numerous classic films, including The Great Gatsby, White Mischief and Deliverance.

All in Gucci, Suki pops out to plug her record

Suki Waterhouse won praise for her performance as a 1970s rock star in hit Prime Video drama Daisy Jones & The Six.

And the London-born actress is clearly determined to show that she cuts the mustard as a pop singer in real life as well.

Promoting her new single, Blackout Drunk, in Los Angeles, the former model resembled a pot of Colman’s in a Gucci mini dress with an oversized collar.

Suki, 32, who has a four-month-old daughter with The Batman star Robert Pattinson, boosted her 5ft 8in height with a pair of £1,000 loafers by the same Italian label.

She has been pursuing a pop career since 2016 and her single Good Looking became a hit in 2022, five years after it was first released, thanks to its popularity on video-sharing app TikTok.

You b*****d! Fry on Python star’s cancer

Stephen Fry sent a letter to Eric Idle after the Monty Python star revealed his cancer diagnosis, saying he was jealous at being outdone with a more dramatic story about beating the disease.

Idle, 81, talked about his battle in 2022 and said he had decided to keep his pancreatic cancer diagnosis a secret until he knew he was going to survive.

Fry, 66, had announced in 2018 that he was recovering from an operation to treat prostate cancer.

Reading out Fry’s letter to him, Idle told Radio 4 show Jon Holmes Says The C-Word: ‘Eric, I have just read your article in Time [magazine]. You bastard. You ever-living son of a bitch.

‘How dare you beat my cancer story. Dull old prostate, caught reasonably early. Yawn.

‘But you, oh no, you only have to have an infinitely more dramatic, interesting, exciting, dangerous and talkaboutable cancer.’

‘One night we invited a French talent agent over for dinner,’ Seidelman recounts in the book, which has just been published in the U.S.

‘She arrived with her new British client, a charming young actor named Hugh Grant…I don’t remember all the blurry details of the evening, other than Jonathan’s delicious seafood risotto, lots to drink, and Hugh’s wickedly funny, self-deprecating stories about being hit on by one of Britain’s top directors.’

The Queen’s English Society is to be relaunched as The King’s English Society. Members of the doughty body, which campaigns for better use of language, have been sent a (grammatically flawless) notice that the proposed name-change is essential to its future existence and will be voted on at its annual meeting next month.

‘Now, I’m addicted, ever since working in Toronto two years ago, to marijuana oil.

Gudinski’s daughter on growing up with a music legend

Kate Gudinski, the daughter of Michael Gudinski, has opened about her childhood with the late music industry legend.

Appearing on Channel 10’sThe Project on Friday the 36-year-old described her years growing up in the house of the famed Aussie music mogul and concert promoter as ‘hectic’ and ‘colourful’.

Michael rose to fame in the 70s as one of the founders of Mushroom Records and was known to host stars like Sting, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan and Tracy Chapman at the family home in Melbourne.

Asked about her most memorable brush with fame as a kid, Kate shared how she once convinced visiting American superstar Madonna to give her a ‘piggyback’.

Kate, born in 1988, said she first encountered the Into the Groove star when she was about five years old during a country getaway.

At the time Michael was promoting Madonna’s tour Down Under.

Kate explained: ‘I really had no idea who she was at that point.

‘I was running around the garden, which was hilly and I couldn’t be bothered running up the hill and I said [to Madonna] ”excuse me can you give me a piggy back up the hill?”

‘And she just looked at me and one of her backing singers said, ”come on Madonna give the little girl a piggyback”.

She said that eventually Madonna, who was not yet a mother then, eventually gave her a ride up the hill.

‘And mum and dad were going,  ”what is she doing on Madonna’s back?”

Elsewhere in the chat Kate related a cringeworthy yarn about meeting U2 lead singer Bono.

After greeting the Aussie singer backstage, the Irishman told Kate: ‘Nice to me you’, to which she replied: ‘You too.’

‘And I said [to myself] did I really do that?’

Kate is currently promoting a new podcast, ‘Gudinski’ which explores the extraordinary 40-year career of her father.

As well as Kate, Gudinski was father to a son, Matt, who he shared with wife Sue.

Kate’s own music career began when she signed to her father’s label, Liberation Music, in 2004.

Her third single, All I Hear, was an ARIA top 10 hit in 2006.

Gudinski died in his sleep while at home in Melbourne at the age of 68 earlier in 2021.

In October that year the mogul’s death in March was revealed to be not just from a heart attack as initially reported.

Instead, the man behind hit acts including Kylie Minogue died from ingesting a cocktail of drink and drugs that proved too much for his disease-riddled heart.

A post-mortem examination revealed 12 drugs including cocaine, oxycodone and morphine in his system, according to a death certificate lodged with the Supreme Court of Victoria.

That certificate revealed Gudinski was also suffering cirrhosis of the liver and ischaemic heart disease, and had recently fractured his spine.

Gudinski’s death was met with deep grief in the Australian music industry and beyond, with tributes coming from stars including Bruce Springsteen, Ed Sheeran, and Madonna.

She said: ‘Sting and I fell in love with Italy many years ago – so much so that after one of our kids was born near Pisa, we spent years looking for a home for us all. Italy has always been incredibly kind to us.

‘Since the 1980s when I made films here in Rome at Cinecittà, then Sting wrote one of his most emotional albums near Pisa the year after his parents died, and at the same time I gave birth to one of our kids, Italy has a special place in our hearts for many reasons.’

Detailing how the family juggles Trudy and Sting’s busy work schedules, she said they are ‘proud’ of them.

She said: ‘They appreciate that we are busy and fulfilled. The kids all have their own paths and careers and they’ve got good work ethics, so we’re proud of them for that.’

The outing comes after the couple attended the Ivor Novello Awards, where Sting was awarded with a Fellowship which is the highest honour the Academy bestows.

Speaking on the carpet, the British rocker said he ‘loves’ the Ivors Academy and was ‘delighted’ to be ‘granted this wonderful honour’.

He said: ‘The last time I was here I got a lifetime achievement award which I thought was a bit premature…

‘But the fellowship was obviously beyond lifetime and it sounds a bit like Lord Of The Rings, but I think there are more duties attached to a fellowship.

Parthenope is an Italian and French film written, produced and directed by Paolo Sorrentino.

Plot details have been kept under wraps but the production says the movie will be an ‘exploration of the relentless pursuit of freedom, an insatiable love for a city with countless faces, and myriad forms of love itself.’

The film was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it premiered on May 21.

Cannes is the world’s biggest film festival, first conceived in 1939 as an alternative to the then-fascist-influenced Venice Film Festival .

It has been held annually since 1946 except in 1948 and 1950, when it was cancelled due to lack of funds.

The festival is known for its carefully selected programme of films that have gone on to Oscar glory or launched the careers of directors like Quentin Tarantino .

Cannes’ top prize is the Palme d’Or, or Golden Palm, whose past winners include Taxi Driver, Apocalypse Now, Pulp Fiction, The Pianist and Parasite.

Jane Campion became the first female director to win in 1993 with The Piano, followed by a nearly three-decade gap until Julia Ducournau received the award for Titane in 2021.

Justine Triet became only the third female director to take the prize last year with Anatomy of a Fall.

There is also an honorary Palme d’Or, which is awarded in recognition of notable bodies of work, with past recipients including Harrison Ford , Jane Fonda and Clint Eastwood .

There are two honorary winners this year: George Lucas of ‘Star Wars’ and ‘ Indiana Jones’ fame, and Japanese animation legend Studio Ghibli, the first group to receive the prize.

Other awards include the Grand Prix, jury prize, best director, best actor, best actress, best screenplay and best short film.

The Cannes Film Festival officially kicked off on Tuesday night as celebrities walked the red carpet into the plush Grand Theatre Lumiere to honour Hollywood actor Meryl Streep before settling in to watch this year’s opening film, The Second Act.

Almost as prestigious as winning the Palme d’Or, the Cannes Film Festival’s top prize, is being on the jury that picks the winner.

Artists from around the world who have made a name for themselves in their respective field are picked to sit on the jury, with one member designated as jury president.

This year’s jury president, U.S. director Greta Gerwig , comes to Cannes after the massive success last summer of Barbie.

She is the first female U.S. director to serve as jury president, taking the baton from the head of the 2023 jury, Triangle of Sadness director and two-time Palme d’Or winner, Ruben Ostlund of Sweden .

Austin Butler excitedly discusses meeting Sting at NYC premiere of Dune 2, set to take on role once played by the English rocker in 1984 film

Austin Butler gushed about meeting Sting while promoting Dune: Part Two on Monday on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The 32-year-old actor in the upcoming highly anticipated sci-fi sequel portrays Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, which Sting, 72, also portrayed in the 1984 film directed by David Lynch, 78.

Jimmy, 49, while fawning over Austin’s work showed a still of him in character and was amazed at how it didn’t even look like him.

‘I heard the director described your character as a psychopath sword master mixed with Mick Jagger,’ Jimmy said.

Austin noted that Mick, 80, was going to play Feyd-Rautha in director Alejandro Jodorowsky’s unsuccessful attempt to make a Dune film in the 1970s, ‘which they called the greatest film never made.’

‘And then Sting obviously played the part in David Lynch’s,’ Austin added.

Austin said that he met Sting on Sunday at the New York City premiere of Dune 2.

‘It was so surreal. …My mind was blown,’ Austin said.

Austin said that Sting came up afterward and was ‘so lovely and just debonair’.

‘He said he still has the codpiece from the original and is going to dry clean it and let me wear it,’ Austin said.

Jimmy asked how he got into character. Austin said he had never played a villain before and didn’t want to judge him.

‘It was a lot of imagining what his childhood was like,’ Austin said.

He said he just imagined what it would be like to grow up with the character Baron Harkonnen as his father.

‘I’d never been in a movie with that many people before,’ Austin said. ‘It was incredible.’

Jimmy then played a clip of the new Dune movie.

Austin also admitted that he enjoyed going to movie theaters incognito to see the fan reactions to his films.

‘I did that with Elvis. I’d like put a hat on and go in the back,’ Austin said. ‘When you feel it with the audience it’s the best. I can’t wait to see this in IMAX.’

Sting turned the New York City premiere of Dune: Part Two into a family affair on Sunday when he brought along his daughter Mickey Sumner.

The 72-year-old musician and actor looked years younger than his age as he rocked a debonair black overcoat on the red carpet, which the 40-year-old actress rocked a revealing black cutout dress.

It was a homecoming of sorts for Sting (born Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner), as he played the vicious Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in David Lynch’s previous 1984 film adaptation of Dune, which was released nearly 40 years ago.

When he wasn’t stripped down for brutal hand-to-hand combat scenes in that earlier cult classic, Sting was costumed in striking black jacket that were reminiscent of his stylish outfit on Sunday at Lincoln Center.

The Police singer and bassist was decked out in an unusually proportioned black cashmere overcoat that had long sleeves that extended well past the tips of her fingers, completely covering him up.

The intriguing double-breasted featured a single visible button, and he wore it with the collar and lapels flipped up.

He appeared to have a second layer consisting of a leather jacket that also had an upturned collar, which bore and even greater resemblance to his original Dune costume.

The rocker also had black leather pants on that peaked out from beneath his coat, and he stayed on theme with a set of chunky black boots.

His daughter Mickey complemented her father with a revealing black halter dress featuring cutouts over her shoulders and her toned midriff.

Its skirt reached nearly to the ground, and her pointy black-toed heels just barely peaked out from under it.

She took a page from her dad’s style by wearing a black overcoat of her own, this time a lustrous satin with slim lapels that she wore open to highlight her revealing dress.

She accessorized with a slim black clutch, and sh wore her blond hair tied up in a top knot that exposed her dangling black chandelier earrings.

Mickey — whom Sting shares with his wife, the actress Trudie Styler — is an actress best known for starring opposite Greta Gerwig in Noah Baumbach’s acclaimed comedy Frances Ha and for appearing in the TNT series Snowpiercer.

Sting’s Dune character Feyd-Rautha is being introduced again in the latest entry, after being excluded from 2021’s Part One, which only covered approximately the first half of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel Dune.

Austin Butler joined Zendaya on the red carpet

Sting played the villainous Feyd-Rautha in the original film, and Austin Butler debuts in Dune: Part Two as a reimagined hairless version of the character; seen with Zendaya

He is the clever and deadly nephew of the Baron Harkonnen, who has decimated the Atreides family to steal it’s lucrative spice mining operation on the desert planet of Arakis.

Now that Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) has joined forces with the nomadic Fremen tribe, he will seek revenge against the Harkonnens, though Feyd-Rautha — the presumed heir to the family head — will have a battle to the death with him.

Austin Butler plays a reimagined hairless version of the character, which contrasts with Sting’s ’80s-appropriate shock of spiky orange hair in the David Lynch version.

That earlier film was a box office bomb and received savage reviews, though its stature has since improved in recent decades with fans and critics.
