Stephen Merchant has given a rare insight into his romance with his girlfriend Mircea Monroe.

The comedian, 51, has been with Mircea, 43, since 2018 but he rarely opens up about their relationship and the pair are not often seen out together in public.

Mircea is American so Stephen divides his time London and LA so that they have enough time together.

In a new interview he gave an insight into their daily lives together, admitting Mircea ‘never cooks’ and they aren’t a particularly sociable couple.

He said of their relationship: ‘Mircea and I have been together almost ten years now.

‘No cats, no dogs, no kids, no other relatives. Just us.’

He added to The Times: ‘When I met Mircea, she said she didn’t cook. A decade later I can tell you she’s been true to her word, so I’ll cook dinner.

‘We’re not a particularly sociable couple. One of the perks of my success has been that I’ve been able to build a little cinema room at home. Recently we watched Game of Thrones. All of it. All I could think about afterwards was dragons.’

Stephen and Mircea met at an awards ceremony almost a decade ago but Stephen previously revealed that he had had trouble finding a girlfriend because of his height.

He told Alan Carr: ‘If they’re down there and I’m up here, it’s a bit tricky.’

But by 2019, Stephen admitted it was great to not have to worry about ‘filling’ such a void in life after he had met the St Louis native.

He said: ‘Aside from the fact that she’s great… there’s something very pleasing about not having the endless concern about filling that part of your life.

‘That’s a very lonely life, the life of a single person’.

Stephen has now officially out-performed the legendary comedians as he rocketed past their staggering fortunes, according to The Sun – topping Ricky Gervais and Peter Kay.

He now holds a whopping £26.6million fortune, thanks to his recent TV stint in the BBC comedy drama The Outlaws.

Ricky sits on a staggering £24.4million, while Peter has a hefty £22.6million to his name.

According to paperwork from last year, it was revealed that Stephen owns a number of TV production companies, with his primary business, SJJM Ltd, holding £25,146,362 in assets alone.

While some prefer fame over fortune, Stephen recently admitted he would like to turn back the clock and become an unknown again.

He said: ‘The unique thing about The Office was that no one knew who we were, so there were no expectations.

‘You’re not thinking about the papers or about the audience.

‘You’re just thinking, ‘This is fun, let’s get it made’. It’s hard to get back to that moment.’

‘I think the size of his bank balance will rather soften the blow.’

Mircea has had roles on the TV series Episodes as Morning Randolph, Hart of Dixie as Tansy Truitt, Impastor as Alexa Cummings and Sing It! as Stacey Needles.

She has also appeared in movies including Cellular, House of the Dead 2, Just Friends, The Change-Up and Magic Mike.
