He may be known as Australia’s most boisterous shock-jock.
But Kyle Sandilands has admitted that even he didn’t have the stomach to appear on a wild daytime panel show from the early 2000s.
The KIIS FM star, 52, took a trip down memory lane on Wednesday’s Kyle And Jackie O Show, recalling how he was once asked to join the cast of Beauty And The Beast, a controversial talk show known for its squabbles and heated debates.
The format of Beauty and the Beast involved an outspoken and intentionally brash male host, known as the ‘beast’, who would debate with a panel of female celebrities, serving as the ‘beauties’.
During Wednesday’s show, Kyle recalled an infamous moment that aired on the show in 2001 when then-host Stan Zemanek outrageously hurled a book in the direction of panelist Jan Murray during a debate.

‘Someone had a book, and he threw their own book at the female,’ Kyle told his co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, 49, who admitted she had never watched the now-defunct show.
‘The good old days of TV,’ Kyle mused.
He then rolled the clip, in which Stan could be seen admonishing Jan about her views that the ‘aristocratic’ rural farm owners were exploding their labourers by greedily taking government subsidies for themselves.

Stan disagreed, arguing that rural residents were simply lazy.
‘When was the last time you went to the country?’ he asked Jan, to which she promptly replied: ‘I live in the country.’
‘Up in Byron Bay, where they smoke wacky tobaccy all the time,’ scoffed Stan.

‘Some people do,’ Jan replied, as Stan interrupted: ‘All you see when you drive into Byron Bay is haze of smoke coming up in the bushes!’
The conversation became increasingly heated when Jan started complaining about then-Prime Minister John Howard, who she compared to a ‘little pygmy gnome’, and how his federal policies were ‘shutting down every service in the bush’.
Stan became increasingly irate as he tried and failed to stop her from talking, shouting: ‘Oh that’s it! Jan? Do you have any respect? Jan!’ before suddenly hurling a book at her.

Taken aback, a visibly frazzled Jan exclaimed: ‘Don’t you do that to me!’
‘Do you have any respect for anybody?’ Stan shouted, as Jan hit back: ‘Not for a fool like you, I don’t! Don’t point your finger at me!’
‘When I talk to you, you look at me and answer my question… I told you before, I’m asking the question. You show some respect,’ Stan roared.
‘Don’t keep on calling the Prime Minister a gnome and ‘little Johnny. I’m fed up with it… Jan, shut up,’ he continued, as Jan relentlessly repeat her arguments about federal policy.

Reacting to the clip, Kyle admitted he ‘didn’t have it in him to go in the show’.

Jackie however thought Kyle would have been perfect for Beauty and the Beast, saying: ‘I felt like I was listening to your clone’.
She went on to speculate why Kyle turned down the invitation to become the new Beast following Stan’s death in 2007.
‘Were you doing Idol or something? What was going on with you?’ she asked, to which Kyle replied: ‘I don’t know’.
‘You wouldn’t have wanted to commit to a daytime TV show,’ she added.
‘Nah, and the money wasn’t that great,’ Kyle replied.
