Kathy Ireland recently shocked fans after announcing that she’d traded in modelling for a new side hustle in commercial fishing.
The Sports Illustrated icon, 62, now runs a multi-billion dollar licensing empire, and she says that fishing is very similar to what she does in the business world.
‘There’s so many similarities in fishing and in business,’ she explained to TMZ.
‘It gets pretty rough and you’ve got to be able to pivot. In business and when you’re heading out to sea the weather’s dynamic – you’ve gotta be prepared,’ she continued.
‘You have to be hyper alert when you’re on the boat. You’re looking out for ropes that can trip you, for dangers everywhere. You’ve got to be aware that you’re not running over someone else’s ropes.
‘Always alert. And in business you’ve gotta watch out for sharks!’

Kathy said that she’s still ‘learning the ropes’ of commercial fishing, but is enjoying fishing off the Santa Barbara coast with her husband, former emergency room physician Dr. Greg Olsen.
Olsen has been commercial fishing for 20 years and his passion for the venture inspired Ireland to get her open-ocean commercial fishing license from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife earlier this year.
Speaking to Fox News earlier this month, Kathy called her career pivot ‘wonderful’ and said that she was grateful for the opportunity.
‘I grew up camping and fishing. My husband, he’s been fishing since he was 3 years old,’ she explained.
‘I’ve always wanted to go out with him on the boat. This season, an opportunity opened up. And when the calendar allows, I go out there with him.’
Kathy has been sharing her fishing expeditions on Instagram, with the star recently sharing a photo of herself filling bait jars.
‘Though I love working with my husband on the most beautiful ocean, as I’m filling bait jars with warm squishy mackerel, this is the verse that fills my heart! “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”,’ she wrote.
