Spencer Hatcher Speaks Out After Mom’s Murder

Country singer Spencer Hatcher is speaking publicly for the first time since the tragic death of his mother, Holly Hatcher, six weeks ago.

In an emotional video shared to Instagram last week, the 28-year-old thanked fans for their outpouring of love and support in the weeks following the shocking killing of his mother in their Virginia home.

‘I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for all the love and support that you all have shown me and my family over the last month,’ Hatcher began. ‘In what has really been the worst time of our life, you all sent so many loving comments and messages and made posts and everything. We did our best to read them, but I just want you all to know how appreciative we are and I am of you all.’

Hatcher also described his late mother as his biggest ‘biggest fan and my biggest supporter.’

‘She loved the music. She loved everything about it. She loved the shows,’ he shared.

After prayer, reflection, and conversations with his label, Hatcher said he has no intention of walking away from his career.

‘I 100% made the decision that I want to continue making music and bringing smiles to people’s faces and being out on the stage and everything. I know that is what my mom would want me to do,’ Spencer assured his followers.

He continued: ‘I’m not gonna quit. I’m gonna keep on going and go as hard as I possibly can like I always have. I want you all to come along on this journey with me as I get back into it.’

The rising star revealed that before the tragedy, he had a full tour schedule mapped out.

While he briefly stepped back and canceled three shows in the wake of her death, he now plans to move forward with his performance calendar.

‘My mom was real excited about all the opportunities and all the music,’ Hatcher said. ‘I hope that you all are just as excited about it as she was.’

He ended his heartfelt message with a promise to eventually thank fans face-to-face.

‘I hope that one day we can all be together where I can thank you in person. I love y’all, God bless,’ he concluded.

Underneath his post, fans rushed to share their support as they wrote his mom was ‘cheering’ him on from heaven.

‘Your mom would be so proud of you, @spencerhatcherofficial! ‘ one wrote. ‘Sending continued love and prayers! God has big, big plans for you.’

Another commented: ‘Our hearts are so broken over what happened. There’s nothing worse than when a horrible thing happens to a good person. She would 100% want you to keep going. As parents, we want nothing more than for our children to succeed.’

On August 3, Holly was fatally stabbed inside her Harrisonburg home by an intruder later identified as Kevin Moses Walker.

Authorities said Walker, who had no history of violent or criminal behavior, was then shot and killed in the driveway by Spencer’s father, Michael Hatcher, who was also injured during the altercation.

Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson called the incident a ‘highly unusual, apparently completely random attack.’

Days later, Spencer and his father addressed the tragedy in a joint statement, with Michael acknowledging both the pain and the overwhelming support they’d received.

‘We’ve cried, we’ve hurt, and we’ve hugged, and we have found more love than we have ever known has existed between us, and between you,’ he said.

Holly served as a teacher in rural Virginia for the past 19 years.

Her employer Rockingham County Public Schools issued a statement on Facebook, saying: ‘We are heartbroken by the loss of a dedicated educator who served our RCPS community with unwavering commitment.’

Holly ‘poured her heart into her work, positively impacting countless students and colleagues,’ the district continued, adding: ‘Her loss is deeply felt by the entire RCPS family.’

His mother’s murder is the latest hardship that Spencer has had to battle as he makes a name for himself in the country music scene.

In September last year, Spencer fractured his pelvis in three places, broke three ribs and suffered a pulmonary contusion to his right lung after falling 20 feet from his roof.

He and Michael were working to repair a broken chimney when Spencer lost his footing, fell and struck a rock, his website states.

The musician was airlifted to a hospital in Charlottesville and treated for his injuries, with doctors saying it was a miracle he did not sustain any head or spinal injuries.

He was offered a deal with Stone Country Records just weeks later and returned to performing live after just three weeks – despite doctors estimating it would be several months before he recovered.

‘I feel like I’ve experienced two miracles in just one month,’ Spencer said last autumn.

‘First, surviving a two-story fall, which I truly believe was the hand of God, and second, signing a record deal, which I realize is something that most artists never get to do.’
