Jake Quickenden’s pregnant wife Sophie has defended herself after fans slammed her reaction to her unborn baby’s gender reveal.
The couple, who wed in 2022, took to Instagram this month to share a video of them finding out the sex of their child by cutting into a cake dyed blue or pink.
The clip saw the X Factor star, 35, and his wife joined by their three-year-old son Leo and Sophie’s son Freddie from a previous relationship.
As they pushed champagne glasses into the icing, they revealed a blue cake inside, causing Jake to excitedly squeal: ‘It’s a brother it’s a brother!’
But Sophie couldn’t hide her disappointment and groaned: ‘For God’s sake. I knew it. Ah man, where are all the girls at?’

Jake hit back at several comments, with one person writing: ‘“For god sake” jeez count yourself lucky you can have kids. I’ve got 3 boys and wouldn’t swap them EVER!’ and him responding: ‘I dont think soph would want to swap them either!’
While he fumed at one follower who asked: ‘Why post this? I’ve never seen someone look so unhappy..’, commenting: ‘really god you must live in tele tubby land or something then! She smiled the whole way through the video.’
He later added another comment on the post, penning: ‘We are over the moon, as long as the little one is healthy and happy that’s all that matters, Soph would have liked a girl to back her up, but we are so used to boys and we couldn’t be happier,’
‘Can’t wait to see if he looks like Leo, can’t wait to watch Fred and Leo with him…. Now we need to get a name??’
On Saturday, Sophie took to her Instagram to come to her own defense, writing that gender disappointment was valid and should be talked about more.
She insisted that she was ‘incredibly grateful’ to be having another child, but admitted that she had ‘always dreamed of having a daughter’.
She confessed she had been ‘sad’ not to have had a girl to have been with for her wedding and ‘girlie trips away’, and added those feelings were okay.

Sophie penned: ‘Gender disappointed is something that isn’t ever spoken about so let’s talk about it.
‘I know I received some negatives comments on our gender reveal video but please know I am incredibly grateful & blessed to be pregnant whether that be with a girl or a boy, especially as it didn’t happen quickly for us.
‘And all I really wish for is a healthy baby. But if you asked me what gender I would have asked for, it would have been a girl & that’s ok.
‘I’ve got 2 amazing boys already & I had always dreamt of having a daughter. And as this will be my last baby, I was a little sad about not having all my dreams coming true.
‘I hadn’t just wished to have a girl because I wanted to dress her up in pretty things, share clothes & go shopping together, but I wanted to be there for her prom, her wedding, her baby birth’s & to also go away on girlie trips away.
‘If you have felt the same, just know your feelings are valid and it doesn’t make you a bad person or unappreciated of being a pregnant. I can’t wait to raise another boy & know this is what’s meant for me.’
Several fans wrote supportive messages in response, with one saying: ‘You absolutely should not even have to defend yourself.. gender disappointment is a real thing♥️’.
However, a slew of other followers fumed at the post, saying that her son would be hurt to see her reaction, while others saying she should focus on her baby being healthy.

Others questioned what difference the gender would make, pointing out that the dreams she listed weren’t ‘sex specific’, while several fans struggling to conceive called the post ‘heartbreaking’.
They wrote: ‘Breaks my heart. How can you be disappointed by the sex of your baby?!: Some women can only dream of having a child – think about that; I don’t understand what one child can do that another can’t.’
‘truly why does the sex of your child matter so much. like not trying to be a hater i’m just so confused on why it’s important; No don’t normalise that. If you wanted a specific gender get a dog not a kid.’
‘I usually never comment or judge on parenting stuff but I would never want my baby to think I wanted them to be anything else rather than what they are. Be disappointed but you don’t have to post everything or say every thought that comes into your head. The internet is so strange I would never :/’.
‘You should just be happy it’s a healthy baby; i couldn’t imagine growing up and possibly seeing a video of my parents being disappointed about my gender, especially when it was posted for millions to see.’
‘Take your sons shopping and go to their weddings etc. These behaviours aren’t sex specific. Your daughter could have hated all those things but your sons may love doing those things with you if you include them in the things you like; children are not there to please you.’
‘As someone who is struggling to conceive this is honestly heartbreaking; A baby is a baby. So long as it’s healthy, the sex shouldn’t matter.’
Last month Sophie, denied she was having a girl after showing off her blossoming bump in a pink swimsuit, that caused fans to think she was hinting at the baby’s gender.

She wrote: ‘Also guys the swimsuit is not a hint to the gender. We didn’t know what we were having at this point. I also had sickness with both the boys but definitely worse this time around.’
Alongside the snap of her in the swimsuit she said: ‘Thank you for all your lovely messages & congratulations. I am slowly trying to get through them all.
‘This pregnancy has definitely felt tougher than my other two. I’ve been really sick for the past 9 weeks and it’s still going. And the tiredness, WOW..
‘I forgot about that!! 12 hours sleep a night apparently isn’t enough. I’ve felt quite low at times feeling like this & bad that I can’t be a present mum, wife & friend all the time. I’m hoping I’ll start to now feel more myself & be in more of a positive mindset.
‘I’ll also try to be better and share more with you guys, as I know I’ve been so quiet on here too.’
