Sofia Vergara, 51, shares her top beauty secrets for looking youthful in her fifties: ‘These are the rules I swear by’

Sofia Vergara has two strict beauty rules she never breaks.

The Modern Family star has revealed she always washes her make-up off before bed and makes sure she keeps her face out of the sun at all times – even if it means her face and body end up looking totally different.

‘There’s a million [rules] I’m obsessed with,’ the 51-year-old told Glamour.

‘I always wash my face after going to bed. I try to avoid the sun on my face no matter what. I go on vacations and I’m not that diligent, to be honest with you, with the body because it’s nice to feel a little sun, a little tan. 

‘But the face — it’s funny, because my body’s always so much darker than my face. My face is like a ghost. It doesn’t even match my body.’

Sofia has launched her own sun care line called Toty to help others include an SPF in their daily skincare and make-up routine.

And the actress says she wishes she’d taken better care of her skin when she was younger.

She added: ‘It’s [launching the brand] been something that I wanted to do for a long time.

‘In the ’90s, when I started realizing that sunblock was so important for your face for aging. I did a lot of damage to myself with the sun because living in South America, in Colombia, we don’t even have seasons. It’s all year long sun.’

Sofia went on to reveal her other must-have beauty product aside from sunscreen – Shu Uemura’s haircare line.

She explained: ‘I love Shu Uemura shampoos. They have changed my hair.

‘I have to do a lot of things to it while I’m working. Sometimes they curl your hair, straighten your hair, pull your hair, colour your hair. I’ve been using it for a year now and it’s really good.’

This comes after she shared her response to online accusations that she’s had plastic surgery.

‘Sometimes I read messages – I avoid reading comments because, for what? It’s usually people that are in a bad mood or depressed or jealous,’ Sofia, 51, told the magazine in an article published on Tuesday while promoting her new Toty sun care line.

‘I read it and it’s like, ”She has done so much stuff to herself that she doesn’t even look like her anymore.” And I’m thinking, It’s not like you have plastic surgery to look worse than before, come on!,’ she added.

‘I always want to say, ‘No, it’s called aging! It’s called f***ing I’m old! That’s why I look different!,’ Sofia said.

Sofia also was asked if she relies on any skin treatments or injections.

‘I do little things here and there. I do a lot of micro-needling when I can. Also, I don’t have downtime. I wish I had downtime from work. I would do a lot more s***. But I do microneedling, little lasers for capillaries because I have rosacea,’ she said.

‘I do Botox in my eyes and in my neck regularly. Little things that I don’t need to sit in my house for a month because, unfortunately, I can’t. And products. I like products,’ Sofia admitted.

Sofia also shared that she’s been working with Walmart and created a clothing line ‘designed for Latinas’ bodies.’

She portrays Griselda Blanco, a Colombian drug lord known as the Cocaine Godmother, in the upcoming Netflix crime series Griselda that will premiere in January.

‘That was a really crazy, challenging job, because I had to be three hours in hair and makeup before starting shooting, and then one hour removing the whole f***ing thing before going to bed,’ Sofia told Glamour.

‘That was really crazy. I’m very excited because we’re going to do a huge press tour now in January, and there’s a lot of Latin actors in it. I think they’re the best actors in Latin America. We were able to have them for the series because it’s half in English and half in Spanish,’ said Sofia, who also is a co-producer of the series.

Sofia and Joe Manganiello, 46, announced in July that they had separated and were divorcing after seven years of marriage.

Only two days after announcing their split, the True Blood actor filed for divorce and noted their date of separation as July 2, while citing the reason for the end of their marriage as ‘irreconcilable differences’.

The former couple did not have children together, but Sofia has a 32-year-old son from her previous marriage.

The Modern Family star has been a judge on America’s Got Talent since 2020.

Sofia had a short trip to celebrate Thanksgiving as she spent the holiday with her neighbor Anastasia Soare, 65.

She shared photos on Instagram of herself enjoying the holiday with Anastasia.

Anastasia is known as the ‘Eyebrow Queen’ and is the founder the Anastasia Beverly Hills beauty brand. 

Sofia wore a dark brown dress with long sleeves and a short skirt for the gathering.
