Skye Wheatley has broken down in tears amid her ongoing home renovation nightmare – revealing her husband Lachlan Waugh built a staircase so oversized it’s left her completely overwhelmed.
The former Big Brother contestant, 29, took to Instagram on Wednesday to share raw updates from inside her Gold Coast mansion reno, confessing she ‘started crying’ when tradies asked her too many questions on-site.
‘Wait till I update you on the latest reno disasters,’ she wrote. ‘I actually started crying and walked out when the trades were asking me questions.’
The emotional meltdown came as Wheatley revealed the couple are still struggling to complete their dream home a whopping five years after purchasing the Spanish-style property in Tallai for $975,000.
The star also admitted she’s relying on ADHD medication to cope with the mental toll, revealing she takes 60mg of Vyvanse daily but still suffers from ‘chronic overwhelm’.

In another post, the influencer joked about the size of the staircase – the same feature that fans recently slammed as ‘too big for the space’ – and shrugged off concerns about the pendant lighting, which she said now resembled something X-rated.
‘Hahaha that’s what Lachy said and I agree,’ she wrote in response to a follower who said the light was too small. ‘But I’m at the point now where I don’t even give a flying f**k if there’s a penis pendant hanging from the ceiling after five years of reno.’
The dramatic staircase has now become the latest flashpoint in a renovation saga that has dragged on since 2019.
Wheatley and her partner Lachlan Waugh bought the dilapidated four-bedroom property with dreams of transforming it into a glamorous family home.
But nearly half a decade later, the house is still unfinished – plagued by budget blowouts, emotional stress and construction delays.
At one point, the couple were living in a half-renovated section of the house while Skye was pregnant with their second child.
She’s previously admitted to hauling rubble and breaking down in tears multiple times throughout the process.
Their financial strain deepened last year when Waugh’s shopfitting business collapsed into administration, forcing Wheatley to take on more influencing work to fund the rebuild.

Since settling on the project back in 2019, one of Skye’s first tasks was restoring the sizeable swimming pool, which had became swamp-like

Despite trying to laugh off the chaos, Wheatley’s latest posts have painted a raw picture of just how much pressure she’s under.
‘It helps, but I still suffer with chronic overwhelm,’ she admitted in a recent Q&A with fans. ‘It just helps like a crutch.’
Wheatley’s five-year reno journey has been well documented – from online backlash over her bathroom layout, to removing the home’s original terracotta floors and redesigning entire wings of the house mid-construction.
And while she’s maintained a sense of humour through much of the drama, even her most loyal fans are beginning to question whether the project will ever be complete.
‘Five years and counting,’ one follower commented. ‘I’d have moved out and burnt it down by now.’
Still, Wheatley insists the finish line is in sight. Parts of the home, including her lavish marble bathroom and now-infamous curved staircase, are finally coming together – though not without criticism.
She has continued to share regular updates with her 647,000 followers and has even hinted at a full house tour when the renovation is finally complete.
