Shirley MacLaine, 91, Enjoys Rare Malibu Outing with Cocktail

Shirley MacLaine sipped on a refreshing cocktail as she stepped out for a rare outing in Malibu on Tuesday.

The 91-year-old Hollywood icon – who recently sported a colorful outfit for a lowkey excursion – enjoyed a relaxing lunch at Kristy’s Village Cafe where she munched on a tasty meal while accompanied by pals.

The star is no stranger to indulging in cocktails and late last year, it was revealed that The Apartment actress was searching for a personal assistant who could enjoy a ‘cocktail’ with her every evening.

MacLaine sported a dark navy sweatshirt as well as a pair of fashionable shades as she sat at a table outside.

A yellow drink was placed next to her as she took part in a lighthearted conversation with her friends ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Earlier this month, the Oscar winner was seen recovering from a slip as she treated herself to a fancy lunch at Lucky’s Steakhouse – also located in Malibu.

MacLaine donned an eye-catching ensemble at the time wearing a green Palm Spring sweatshirt as well as a pair of green cargo pants.

She layered the look with a vibrant red hoodie and slipped into a pair of red shoes for a finishing touch.

The award-winning star – whose brother is fellow actor Warren Beatty – celebrated her 91st birthday back in April.

The Terms Of Endearment actress previously opened up about her longevity during an interview with People last year.

She credited her history of dance – which began at the age of three when her mother enrolled her in ballet classes.

‘I started my dance training at age three and stopped at about 67. It taught me discipline, loving music, working with people and dealing with pain.’

MacLaine also expressed that she is thankful ‘that I can keep working’ while also adding, ‘I have my friends and I am really healthy.’

The Hollywood legend kicked off her decades-long career in the industry in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1955 black comedy The Trouble With Harry.

She went on to appear in other projects throughout the late 1950s including Around The World in 80 Days and Ask Any Girl.

In 1960, MacLaine took on a leading role in the romantic comedy The Apartment alongside Jack Lemmon.

The movie was a box office and critical success upon its release and raked in 10 nominations at the Academy Awards – winning five including Best Picture.

Her success continued as she starred in more films over the years such as The Children’s Hour (1961), Sweet Charity (1969) and The Turning Point (1977).

MacLaine also took on a role in the 1983 movie Terms Of Endearment and was another major success – receiving 11 nods at the 56th Academy Awards. She won an Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in the project.

She worked alongside Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Julia Roberts in Steel Magnolias (1989).

MacLaine has also starred in Bewitched (2005), Bernie (2011) and The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty (2013).

The actress additionally jumped over to the world of television in shows such as Downton Abbey, Glee and Only Murders In The Building – the latter also starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez.

And she still has upcoming projects under her belt, including the road trip comedy Lucy Boomer, Variety reported earlier this month. She is set to star with Ansel Elgort.

The movie will be directed by Howard Deutch – also known for Pretty In Pink – with principal photography scheduled to begin next year in February in New Mexico.

Benaroya Pictures CEO Michael Benaroya is one of the producers on the project.

‘We couldn’t be more excited to add Lucy Boomer to our slate,’ Benaroya expressed in a statement.

‘It has all the ingredients distributors will love: a moving story, a terrific director in Howie Deutch, a stellar lead in Ansel Elgort, and, of course, the legendary Shirley MacLaine.’

The Golden Globe winner has also reflected on her long-running career in Hollywood.

‘Even though I tell people the truth, I’m not a diva,’ she explained to Variety back in 2020. ‘That comes from my 3-year-old ballet training.

‘I’ve got to go all the way back to that and just hard, honest work, with quite a bit of art, if you can muster it, thrown in. I’ve also stayed in the business and never thought about quitting because I wanted to pay for plane tickets to travel.’

MacLaine added that she ‘didn’t socialize Hollywood style. I’d rather travel to a country I hadn’t been to. So when I think about my life, I’m not sure I wouldn’t put the travels a bit above show business.’
