Kyle MacLachlan revealed he would return to the Sex & The City franchise – if it was in the right way.
The actor, 66, famously played Dr. Trey MacDougal – also known as Charlotte York’s first husband on the series.
He revealed that he had previously said no to a cameo on And Just Like That? because the plotline wasn’t right to him, and that he wanted it to be ‘a little deeper.’
Kyle noted that is open to returning as Trey, if they ‘come back with another idea.’ย
Kristin Davis – who plays Charlotte in the franchise – spoke about how she thought Trey was Charlotte’s ‘perfect match’ during herย her podcast Are You a Charlotte?
Kyle spoke toย People about her comments, agreeing with her that Trey was in fact Charlotte’s ‘perfect match.’
‘That’s so sweet of her. I thought I was her perfect match and then they brought in somebody else. It was sad,’ he said to the outlet while attending the iHeartRadio Awards at SXSW on Monday.

Kristin had said on her podcast that the AJLT plotline was Charlotte bumping into Trey.
‘The thing that I love most about this particular episode that did not happen is that Charlotte tells the friends that she has not communicated at all with Trey, which is kind of shocking in a way. But I’ve never been married and I’ve certainly never been divorced so I really don’t know how that works. Do you communicate? Do you not communicate? Is it cool to be friends?’ Kristin said.ย
She that the creators wanted Trey to return for a guest appearance, in order for Charlotte to get closure – but that Trey declined the cameo.
The actress added that she felt that their storyline was ‘unfinished.’
‘So I’m hoping that we can kind of revisit [that]. Maybe they run into each other, you know, just at an event or at a restaurant or something like that. I think it would be so amazing to have Kyle back on,’ she said.
However the star noted that Kyle had said no to the cameo because ‘he just didn’t want there to be kind of a sad note to the end. So I get that,’ she said.ย
Kristin said she has only ‘wonderful’ memories with working with Kyle and that he was ‘goofy and silly’ on set, noting that it was a ‘joy’ to work with him and hopes he does make a cameo on AJLT.ย

Kyle told People on why he said no to cameo: ‘I think it would be really fun to return, yeah, I do.ย They had reached out. I just felt that the idea that they had – I wanted a little bit more to it. I wanted the relationship that we had to be a little deeper.’
Adding: ‘Maybe they’ll come back with another idea. I’d be game.’ย
Charlotte ended up marrying her second (and current) husband Harry Goldenblatt, played by actor Evan Handler.ย
The love story between Harry and Charlotte began during her divorce from Trey.
Charlotte and Trey seemed like a fairy tale romance, until they tied the knot and Charlotte found out about his erectile dysfunction – as she dealt with fertility issues.
Trey’s mother also kept meddling with their marriage before their decision to split, with Charlotte insisting on getting the apartment in the divorce.
Harry was her divorce lawyer and declared his loveย for Charlotte – after which they dated and then tied the knot.
