Selena Gomez said that a break-up with one of the Jonas Brothers made her best friends with Taylor Swift as she reflected on their longtime friendship and even revealed the ‘incredible’ song she heard before anyone else.
Gomez, 33, gushed about the singer, 35, as she discussed how the genesis of their relationship came through their famous ex-boyfriends when they were teenagers over a decade ago.
While making an appearance on Wednesday’s podcast episode of Therapuss with Jake Shane, she also recalled how Swift once played her ‘one of the most beautiful songs ever’ before releasing the track and going on to win multiple awards.
On the podcast, the former Disney star recalled when she dated Nick Jonas, 32, during the same time Swift was dating Nick’s older brother Joe Jonas, 35.
‘It was cute,’ she began. ‘We were young. We all know and love each other now and it’s so cute.
‘We don’t know what we were doing. She and I like to say the best thing we got out of those relationships was each other because it was really sweet’.

Gomez continued: ‘I was about 15 she was about 18 and that’s when it was the crazy curly Taylor and she had all these bracelets that went all the way up,’ she recalled.
‘I believe Love Story was the first song she had ever played me and it wasn’t released yet,’ she said about Swift’s 2008 country pop hit Love Story, which went on to receive eight awards from 13 nominations.
‘Yeah, I was in a hotel room and I remember it vividly, it was just one of those songs I instantly heard and thought this is one of the most beautiful songs ever,’ Gomez gushed about the singer-songwriter.
She said that after their respective breakups with the two members of the Jonas Brothers they were dating, they became close friends.
‘So, at that age we became best friends, bonded over the breakup,’ the Only Murders in the Building star continued.
‘As girls do, and then we, I don’t know and then we just stuck around for all the ups and downs that came after and here we are now 16 years later’.
‘Wow, I can’t believe you heard Love Story before it was released,’ the podcast host Jake Shane chimed in, to which Gomez responded, ‘I know it was so sweet.
‘She was like, “OK, I just want to play you this song, but just like, you know, I don’t know. It’s going to be the first single, I think, I think”‘.

In an Instagram Story post, the singer showed off a dainty ‘Rare’ inkling, written in cursive, on the right side of her neck.
Gomez released her makeup brand, Rare Beauty, inspired by her same-name album Rare, which she dropped earlier that same year.
Rare, her third studio album, is considered her most personal and one of her most critically acclaimed works in her discography.

Late last month, Gomez celebrated her 33rd birthday with an early, disco-themed party with her best friend in attendance and her soon-to-be husband.

In photos uploaded to Gomez’s Instagram, the stars were pictured sitting in what appeared to be a ball pit as the birthday girl playfully reached toward the camera.
Dressed in a sequined silver jumpsuit, the singer and actress looked radiant as she posed with Swift, who sported her signature red lip and a black minidress.
Although the Sunset Blvd hitmaker did not disclose any party details, the gathering appeared to have a 70s disco theme and be held at the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
In an early birthday celebration — her actual birthday lands later this week — Gomez shared a glowing Instagram post reflecting on what she called ‘the most beautiful year of my life.’
‘As I prepare to celebrate my 33rd birthday, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible journey that has brought me here,’ Gomez wrote in her caption. ‘This past year has truly been the most beautiful year of my life, and I owe so much of that to all of you.’
