Speaking to Beauticate recently, Nathalie admitted that she had a terrible time living in Los Angeles in her twenties, admitting she lost her sense of purpose.
‘I had been a uni student studying social science and policy, majoring in development in the third world, and working as a volunteer in the inner-city with indigenous youth, then all of a sudden I moved and all that purpose was gone,’ she explained.
‘It suddenly seemed that my purpose was to be a famous actress.’

Nathalie told the publication that she fell into a ‘deep depression’ after the success of Tokyo Drift, as the reality of ‘success’ didn’t match up to what she hoped it would be like.
Natalie also said she now regrets starring in Tokyo Drift, as the film represented everything she stands against.
‘I really don’t care for car racing, and imagine the footprint of a franchise like that. Not only how much it costs to make, but also the people around the world it inspires to burn fuel for no reason,’ she lamented.

Similarly, Nathalie said she’s happy the producers of Dynasty recast her after just one season, as she disliked her character Cristal’s ethics.
‘[Dynasty] was all about overconsumption… I mean, I was literally playing the head of PR for an oil company!’
These days, Nathalie pours her efforts into advocating for climate change action and educating fans on her Peruvian homeland.

A month later, Nathalie made headlines again by slamming the American Broadcasting Company’s decision to cancel her series The Baker and the Beauty, calling the move ‘extremely tone deaf’
‘I could no longer promote a new OOTD (outfit of the day) and feed this ridiculous fashion culture that tells us what we bought last year is not wearable this year because it’s not ‘cool’ anymore,’ she added.

‘We are seeing now more than ever that representation is important for black and brown people of colour,’ Nathalie wrote in a statement after the show was axed.
‘How we are represented on our television shows determines how society sees us, and the empathy and support they will grant our communities. When we are constantly depicted as narcos and maids, we can’t expect to find favour with voters when they go to the polls and elect leaders who will decide on the fate of immigrants.’
