Sean Bean’s Wife Ashley Moore Shares Brave Cancer Journey

After four failed marriages, Sean Bean almost gave up on lasting love before meeting ‘the one’, his fifth wife Ashley Moore.

But few people are aware that the actor’s spouse, 40, is a cancer survivor who wrote about getting the all-clear from the disease back in 2020.

Sean’s wife of eight years shared black and white photos of herself in a hospital gown smiling her way through treatment after keeping her illness private.

She captioned the post: ‘Many people don’t know the journey I’ve taken. But I’m so proud to be a strong woman and have such strong women supporting me.’

Her post sparked a flurry of comments from friends and fans who had no idea about her diagnosis, alongside supportive love hearts from her famous husband.

One wrote: ‘So happy to see your well now Ashley, I have been through it twice so I know what a hard journey it can be! Well done for keep smiling [sic].’

Revealing her hidden battle for the first time Ashley wrote in the comments section: ‘I’m cancer free now too. And loving life and it makes you appreciate everything so much more.’

Ashley has not revealed when she was diagnosed with cancer or what type of cancer she battled.

Sean and Ashley, who wed in 2018, made a rare red carpet appearance at the Los Angeles launch of Robin Hood last week.

Dressed in a tobacco brown suit, the actor certainly looked the part while posing for photos alongside Moore on the red carpet shortly after arriving at the Hollywood venue.

Sean, whose string of successful TV shows includes Game Of Thrones, Red Riding and Sharpe, takes another prominent role as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

The actor exchanged vows with Moore in front of 40 close friends and family members at Axnoller Farm in Dorset in February 2018.

A spokesperson told the Daily Mail at the time: ‘It was predominantly close family and friends; Anna Friel was there, who’s obviously starring with Sean in Broken at the moment.

After getting the all-clear and being told she is cancer free, Ashley bravely revealed her hidden battle in a subtle Instagram post to her 13,000 followers in 2020

‘Anna’s daughter Gracie was a bridesmaid and sung them a song, which was Can’t Help Falling In Love by Elvis, and she played that on the guitar as Ashley walked down the aisle. There probably weren’t more than 40 people there.

‘He’s super happy, I’ve never seen him so in love and committed and happy with Ashley. They’re very sweet together.’

Speaking to the Daily Mail’s Girl About Town the previous year, the Game Of Thrones star admitted he was hesitant about the prospect of exchanging vows after four failed marriages.

But his attitude soon changed after meeting Moore, a former nanny who is 26 years his junior.

‘I wasn’t planning on getting married again, but then I wasn’t planning on meeting someone as amazing as Ashley,’ he said.

‘I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together.’

His first marriage to school sweetheart Debra James, a hairdresser, came in 1981, when he was just 21.

However it crumbled soon after he moved to London a short time later to study at RADA, where he fell in love with fellow student Melanie Hill.

The actress, who starred in the classic sitcom Bread, became his second wife in 1990.

The couple have two daughters together, Lorna, 29, and Molly, 25.

Their marriage lasted seven years and soon after their split, the star confirmed he was dating actress Abigail Cruttenden, who he met on the set of ITV series Sharpe.

The couple married in November 1997 and their daughter Evie was born the following year; however, they split when their baby was only a few months old.

He married for the fourth time, to actress Georgina Sutcliffe at Marylebone Register Office in February 2008 but their marriage lasted for just two years.

The pair met five years previously in 2003 when she was managing the bar at a West End theatre where Bean was playing Macbeth.

They shared a house in Belsize Park, north London, but are thought to have separated during the first year of their marriage before reuniting.

Two years later they divorced, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.

More recently the former Game Of Throne star has taken up the sword to help neighbours in their row over the decision to earmark two areas of greenbelt land for a huge 1,638 home scheme in his hometown of Sheffield.

Sean, who rose to fame in TV’s Sharpe before starring in The Lord of the Rings and GoldenEye, has joined furious locals who argue the new homes would overwhelm local infrastructure, increase pollution and harm public health.

The actor, who was born and raised in the suburb, has joined the ‘Save S13 Greenbelt – The Sapphire McCarthy campaign’, named in memory of a local resident who died during the group’s bid to fight the plans.

Mother-of-two Sapphire McCarthy had launched the campaign against the proposed scheme to build 868 homes off Bramley Lane and another 870 on farmland off Finchwell Lane, fearing it would ruin her ‘dream views’.

Sean has previously paid tribute to McCarthy who sadly passed away, aged 39, in July and praised her ‘valiant and impassioned campaign’.

The Labour Government has triggered a huge drive in the development of new housing projects across the country in recent months as part of its pledge to build 1.5 million new homes over the parliament.

Sean praised the community’s efforts in uniting together and fighting the plans with ‘passion and professionalism’ and how they had rallied to raise £10,000 to help with legal costs going forward.

He said: ‘It is incredible that within four months we have come up with barristers, planning consultants, hundreds of objections and with no help from the council – the only help has been from MP Clive Betts.

‘We have got 4,000 signatures on a petition so it is incredible how the residents have brought themselves together and how they have managed to get all this armour around them in such a short space of time and shows they mean business – we mean business – we are not letting it go like that.

‘We are not going to stop and we will see this through.’
