The next Scary Movie sequel isn't due out until June, but the horror spoof is already dividing fans with its politically-incorrect comedy.
Following the release of the Scary Movie 6 trailer this week, some fans were shocked to see the film mocking gender pronouns.
In the opening scene of the trailer, a woman gets stabbed by Ghostface on a crowded New York Subway.
As one passenger cries, 'He stabbed her!', the victim, who is in the middle of being killed, turns to her and snaps, 'Not HER! My pronouns are they/them. He stabbed THEM!'
The scene has drawn a mixed response online, with some calling it 'transphobic', while others have hailed it as a return to the anti-woke jokes of the past.
'I'm not offended by Scary Movie 6 having a "my pronouns are they/them" joke, I'm offended that they didn't do something new or outrageous with it,' commented one.

They added, 'Like man. I know you're gonna be transphobic. You're Scary Movie. But you at least have to be funnier than Ben Shapiro.'
Another wrote, 'This pronoun thing is about 10 years too late and sounds like a boomer MAGA grumble.'
A third commented, 'They're actively trying to be offensive, when the reality is that type of comedy is extremely dated.'
However, others have pushed back against the backlash, with one responding, 'I love how all the trans people are pretending they're NOT triggered by it. Clearly you are!'
Another said, 'Maybe I'm that one friend who isn't woke enough but the Scary Movie 6 trailer was funny as f**k!'

The new Scary Movie, which will be released in June, comes more than a decade after the last entry.
Scary Movie 5 was released in 2013 and was the first entry in the franchise not to star leads Anna Faris and Regina Hall.
It received scathing reviews from critics and became the lowest-grossing entry in the franchise's history.

The upcoming sixth film marks the returns of both Faris and Hall, as well as the Wayans brothers.
Faris previously told People back in 2024 that she would only return to the Scary Movie franchise if she could work with Hall again - and if the paycheck was big enough.
The retired actress and bodybuilder, 62, passed away from 'hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease complicated by left femoral fracture' - according to TMZ.
'Chronic alcohol use was a contributing factor' to the demise of Trcka, who boxed and wrestled under the name Kasie Cavanaugh.
Trcka made her acting debut in 2000 portraying gym teacher Miss Mann in Scary Movie, which amassed $278 million at the global box office and spawned five sequels.
