Scarlett Johansson’s Awkward First Date with Colin Jost

Scarlett Johansson has revealed how her lack of dating experience prompted her to exhibit some ‘weird’ behavior during the very beginning of her romance with husband Colin Jost.  

The couple wed in 2020 but Jost, 43, initially believed he didn’t have a chance after she acted oddly during their very first date. 

Johansson, 41, recalled their first date while guest co-hosting Jenna and Friends on Monday – admitting it was all because she had never been ‘really asked out’ prior to Jost. 

The comedian took Johansson out to dinner before inviting her to continue the date over drinks with friends.

But dating newbie Johansson instead decided to call it an early night. 

‘My first date with Colin, honestly, nobody ever really asked me out really before,’ Johansson recalled.

Johansson elaborated: ‘I was a serial monogamist and I just never got the kind of traditional, “Hey, would you like to have dinner sometime?” I don’t know if it was just because I was working since I was little, I don’t know why.’   

‘So he actually asked me out on a date. We went to an Italian restaurant in the East Village. It was a lovely date,’ she said. 

Jost then asked if Johansson wanted to continue their hangout with the friends he was scheduled to meet later that evening. 

But instead, she decided to return home.

‘We had dinner at 8 p.m. or whatever, and then afterwards, he was like, “I’m meeting friends, let’s go grab a drink.” And I hadn’t dated basically ever, and so I was just like, “I have to go now. I need to leave!”

‘And I got home to relieve my babysitter and it was like 9:36, and she was like, “Why are you home?!” I was like, “I went on this date, and it was -” I just felt so flustered.’

‘Later on he was like, “I totally thought that was it. You were acting so weird,”‘ she said. ‘I panicked. I don’t know.’ 

Fortunately the couple overcame the initial awkwardness of their first date and went on to tie the knot in 2020.  

Jost invited Johansson to continue their date over pre-planned drinks with friends – an offer the actress refused

The fifteen–time Emmy nominee originally began dating two-time Oscar nominee Johansson in May 2017 after she hosted the NBC sketch show for the fifth time. 

The couple got engaged two years later and wed sometime in October 2020 at their New York home. 

They welcomed son Cosmo the following year. 

Johansson was previously married to Romain Dauriac from 2014 to 2017 and they share 11-year-old daughter Rose together. 

The Weekend Update co-anchor previously romanced Parks and Recreation alum Rashida Jones from 2013 to 2016.

The actress recently revealed whether Jost will be returning to Saturday Night Live in the wake of four of its stars leaving prior to the start of season 51.

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Johansson revealed that her husband is ‘going back to work.’

Fortunately the awkwardness of the first date didn’t stop their romance from flourishing
