Savannah Chrisley revealed that her imprisoned parents Todd and Julie Chrisley inspired her to go on The Masked Singer.
The reality star, 26, surprised fans this weekend when she was revealed to be competing as the Afghan Hound on Wednesday.
‘This is my year of just saying yes, and especially after everything that happened with my parents and [my ex-fiancé] Nic [Kerdiles],’ she told People, in reference to her parents’ years-long imprisonment and Kerdiles’ sudden death.
‘I’m like, “You know what? Don’t take life too serious. Laugh, have fun, make fun of yourself, and just go for it.” That was really the main reason why I did it.’
She added that she told her parents in advance she would be doing the show just to give them ‘something to look forward to’ after they were sentenced to a combined nearly two decades in prison following conviction for bank fraud and tax evasion.

‘I told them especially just to give my parents something to look forward to because I know that they can watch it [from prison].’
‘That was really the main purpose of doing it, was just because I wanted them to get to be a part of it and get to watch it and laugh and kind of make a joke out of it with me.’
Savannah admittedly that she had ‘no musical abilities’ going into the show, and that she thought it was ‘going to be a hilarious’ journey.
However, the reality star explained that her doubts was only ‘me getting in my own way.’
‘I was like, “Just freaking do it, Savannah. Just show up, do it, have fun. As long as you have fun, that’s all that matters,”‘ she recalled.
Savannah noted there was ‘zero training whatsoever’ prior to her being on the show.
‘The team offered me vocal lessons and all that, but I was like, “Hey, guys, it’s just going to be a waste of time because I have zero musical abilities, so let’s just call it for what it is, and we’ll do a run-through when I get there.”‘
‘That’s what happened, and I just feel like I would’ve run myself crazy if I actually tried to prepare for it because I’m freaking terrible. I just jumped in and freaking did it.’
She said given the tough year she’s had it was important for her to show her younger siblings that it’s ‘ok do something that you’re uncomfortable with, have fun, laugh at yourself.’

‘I was able to laugh at myself and realize that, Hey, you don’t have to be embarrassed. It’s OK to laugh at yourself sometimes. Life’s a heck of a lot more fun that way.’
Savannah revealed her identity after performing for her incarcerated parents on Wednesday’s episode of The Masked Singer on Fox.
She competed against Gumball, Miss Cleocatra and Beets during the season 11 The Wizard Of Oz Night episode that featured the debut of Group B following last week’s season premiere.
Afghan Hound flat-out admitted that she couldn’t sing before performing a warbling rendition of The Lion Sleeps Tonight by The Tokens.
‘I know I’m not a good singer, but I’m here to put on a fun performance and just have a great time. I want to make my family smile and laugh from afar, and that’s what’s giving me the courage tonight,’ Afghan Hound said at the end of her clues package.
Afghan Hound had panelists Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy and Rita Ora dancing along to her off-key, pitchy performance in which she skipped some lyrics while laughing.
The panelists incorrectly guessed that she was Sistine Stallone, Lori Loughlin or Brooke Hogan after her post-performance clue of the Cowardly Lion’s badge of courage and statement that it takes ‘courage’ to be on TV.
Afghan Hound and Gumball finished in the bottom two and competed against each other in a Smackdown to the song Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead by Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg.
She’s also been dealing with the tragic loss of her ex-fiancé Nic Kerdiles, who died in September of 2023, following a motorcycle accident at the age of 29
Chrisley and Kerdiles first began dating each other back in November of 2017. Kerdiles proposed to Savannah back on Christmas Eve in 2018 after dating for over a year. Chrisley announced in a September 2020 Instagram post that the couple had split
Gumball wowed the audience and panelists with his powerful rendition, after which Savannah was revealed as the hound.
Show host Nick Cannon, 43, asked her why she decided to come on The Masked Singer.
‘Honestly, my life over the past year has changed drastically. I lost both my parents to the federal system and now I have custody of my 15-year-old brother and 10-year-old sister. So, if I can teach them anything, it’s take every opportunity that comes your way and don’t back down,’ said Savannah, referencing her parents Todd and Julie and her siblings Grayson and Chloe.
Savannah has been caring for her younger siblings since Chrisley Knows Best stars Todd and his wife Julie were found guilty in July 2022 of taking part in a $30 million tax fraud scheme and sentenced to 12 and seven years behind bars respectively.
They headed off to prison in January 2023 and Savannhah has been looking out for younger brother Grayson, 17, and nice Chloe, 11, who was adopted by Todd, 54, and Julie, 51, in 2016.
Todd and Savannah have three other children Lindsie, 34, Kyle, 32, Chase, 27. They have been raising Chloe since she was an infant due to Kyle’s substance abuse issues, and they legally adopted her in 2016.
The stars rose to fame thanks to their USA reality show Chrisley Knows Best, which premiered in 2014 and documented their day-to-day lives alongside their children. It went on for nine seasons before it was recently canceled amid the scandal.
In the series, Todd and Julie worked hard to portray the image of devoted parents and devout Christians – but they saw their picture-perfect on-screen images ripped apart when it was brought to light that they had scammed the bank by submitting fake documents when applying for loans.
In addition, Todd’s former business partner Mark Braddock shocked the world when he claimed that he had a gay love affair with the father-of-five during the trial – further shattering the reality star’s long-cultivated reputation.

Todd and Julie are serving out their time at two separate facilities, Todd’s is in Pensacola, Florida, and Julie’s is in Lexington, Kentucky.
