Saturday Night Live alum Chris Redd says that his rift with former friend and costar Kenan Thompson did not get physical, in reference to an unsolved 2022 attack he endured.
Redd, 40, in a clip published on TMZ Thursday, said that Thompson, 47, was not the person who punched him in the face outside of a Manhattan comedy club in 2022.
‘No, Kenan did not hit me,’ the St. Louis, Missouri native said. ‘People took it like Kenan hit me … he didn’t hit me, no.’
A probe is still ongoing, and that no one has been taken into custody in connection with the attack on the comedian, a spokesperson for the New York Police Department told TMZ.

Redd and Thompson fell out over Redd’s complicated communications with Thompson’s ex-wife Christina Evangeline, who Redd did not call out by name in a January 6 social media clip addressing the relationships.

Redd said on social media that he and Evangeline developed romantic feelings for one another after she helped shepherd him through quitting prescription medication, as he dealt with what he labeled ‘pill problems.’
Redd said that ‘this lady’ – purportedly Evangeline – was the only person to help focus him toward the path of recovery, and romantic feelings sprouted as a result.
Redd said he ‘felt bad from the start’ about the complicated relationship with the ex-wife of one of his colleagues.
He called the dynamics involved an ’emotional double-edged sword.’
Said Redd: ‘I hate doing something to somebody that I know would hurt them.’
Thompson and Evangeline got divorced in 2022 following an 11-year marital union that produced two children.Â
TMZ noted in the fall of 2022 that ‘there was no overlap or cheating’ in between Evangeline’s respective romances with Thompson and Redd.
Redd said that his main motivation in dating Evangeline was a fear of missing out on true love:Â I ‘feel like I didn’t know what love was and I just felt like I couldn’t miss out on it.’
Redd said of his romance with his colleague’s ex-wife: ‘I was in love and I was spiraling out.’

He said of the reaction to the revelation: ‘I saw everything that everybody said – every single thing everybody said, I saw it.’
Redd and Thompson shared the stage on Saturday Night Live from 2017 until 2022 – and jointly won an Emmy in 2018 for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for their song parody Come Back, Barack in an honor also shared by Will Stephen and Eli Brueggemann
Red said during the interview Wednesday that he abused Xanax and Adderall during his time on the NBC variety show, on which he impersonated celebs such as rapper Kanye West and former New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Â
Redd said he preferred purchasing the drugs from street dealers instead of getting them from a doctor because he didn’t want to be labeled crazy.
Redd said that he had sold pills to his classmates – not naming names because he wouldn’t ‘snitch on y’all’ – but later walked back the comments on Instagram earlier this month.
Redd said that he found the behind-the-scenes atmosphere at Saturday Night Live to be less than welcoming, as he said that his colleagues gossiped about him as he dealt with panic attacks.
‘It’s crazy that somebody would watch you destroy yourself,’ Redd said. Â
