For years many envied her petite frame as the chain-smoking cocktail drinking Carrie Bradshaw.
But Sarah Jessica Parker has revealed she hates being thin and finds it difficult to put weight on.
The 59-year-old said: ‘A lot of people have their kind of their cross to bear. I don’t like being thin. And if you met my siblings it’s the same genetic make up, and I don’t particularly think or celebrate being thin. I would prefer to have weight but that’s just the way my body works.’
From January to April, the Sex and the City actress made her West End debut in the two man show, Plaza Suite, opposite her husband of almost 30 years, Matthew Broderick.
Talking to the beauty expert Caroline Hirons on her new skincare and beauty-based podcast, Glad We Had This Chat, Ms Parker said: ‘The show was so physical. It was a lot that it was like, honestly hard to keep weight on, you know.

During her chat with Ms Hirons, the 59-year-old icon said she doesn’t ‘particularly think or celebrate being thin’
‘But I generally feel better when I’m exerting something different than just walking.’
Ms Parker married the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star, 62, in 1997 after their love for the theatre brought them together.
They share three children James Wilke, 21, and twins Marha and Tabitha, 14.
Speaking about her children, Ms Parker said: ‘They are mercurial but I feel like that’s pretty much right on target for their age. They’re mostly really nice. I mean, you know, there are times that I do the wrong thing, say the wrong thing, I annoy them, I’m their mother.
‘And I just don’t think their father has the same opportunity to aggravate them.
‘I do their laundry, I tell them this, I make sure they remind them about that. I’m, you know, charge your phone. Can’t leave the house. Do this, do that.
Both actors are keen cooks and Ms Parker has revealed her love for pork or lamb chops.
Speaking about cooking for her children she said: ‘I mean, sometimes it’s a chore. Sometimes you’re like, oh my God, what does everyone want for dinner? I mean, it’s the question we always ask, but on the other hand, you create a longer time together. The kids love it. They know that they’re lucky. They always say, I can’t believe you guys cook for us every night.’
