Sarah Jessica Parker Hints at Future of And Just Like That… After Controversial Axing

Sarah Jessica Parker grew emotional as she discussed the recent brutal cancelation of her polarizing Sex and the City spinoff And Just Like That….

Many fans of the original series were left exasperated by the follow-up, accusing it of having cloying dialogue, cringeworthy new characters and hackneyed storylines.

While Sarah, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon returned to play their old fan favorite roles, Kim Cattrall notably declined to come back full-time, following years of reports she had feuded with her co-stars.

Although Kim had a quick cameo in season two, her character was talking on the phone from London, so she did not have to film with any of the other actresses.

Over the summer it emerged that HBO had axed the show after three seasons, and Kristin has since confirmed rumors the cast had ‘no idea’ they were going to be canceled until after they had wrapped their final episodes.

Now Sarah, 60, an executive producer on And Just Like That…, has talked about the decision to ‘gracefully walk away’ from the show – only to drop the bombshell that she may only be on ‘hiatus,’ on CBS Mornings.

She said that giving up her iconic character of sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw was a ‘very difficult decision,’ but she left the door open to a potential return.

‘I’m not certain I understand what that decision means, because I could just be on hiatus,’ teased the Ed Wood actress with a small smile.

Sarah revealed she extensively discussed the cancelation with showrunner Michael Patrick King, who had held the same job on Sex and the City.

‘I think it’s out of respect for this really singular professional experience that you have to consider what you want to do, have you done it, and sometimes it’s best to gracefully walk away when things feel really right and energetic, versus squeezing and exploiting people’s generosity and hospitality,’ she claimed.

Sarah exuded her trademark sense of sprightly New York chic when she was spotted Friday dashing around Manhattan en route to the interview.

She was already wearing the outfit she modeled on CBS Mornings, including a sleek navy blouse and a long floral skirt with a black background.

Adding an extra splash of color to the proceedings, she warded off the gathering autumn chill by wrapping herself in a long bubblegum pink coat.

Sarah’s latest comments about And Just Like That… come shortly after Kristin revealed the cast and crew were blindsided by the cancelation of the series.

Kristin, who charmed fans of the original show as the naive Charlotte York, said it was ‘definitely true’ she ‘didn’t know’ her spinoff was headed for the scrap heap until she had already wrapped the third and ultimately final season.

‘Our commitment that we had made was a three-year commitment to each other, so we knew that part, but I just assumed that we were going to keep going,’ she said on The Drew Barrymore Show. ‘That’s how I am.’

Meanwhile viewers had been increasingly fed up of the series’ strained storylines, such as Carrie’s renewed romance with Aidan (John Corbett) from the old show.

In one snafu that inspired widespread mockery, a new character played by Nicole Ari Parker suffered the death of her father in season one, only for the writers to evidently forget and bring him back on season two and then kill him off again on season three.

However a particularly unpopular plot with viewers was Cynthia Nixon’s character Miranda leaving fan favorite Steve (Dave Eigenberg) and striking up a romance with ‘queer non-binary Mexican Irish diva’ Che Diaz, played by Sara Ramirez.

When Che was written off the show ahead of season three, Sara claimed to have been fired for vocally expressing pro-Palestine views.

However a source close to the show rubbished her allegations to the Daily Mail, saying Sara had been ‘on the chopping block since last season’ because Che Diaz was ‘annoying’ and ‘held no value anymore.’

And Just Like That… reportedly saw its ratings plummet over the course of its run, as critics lambasted the show and fans despaired of the ‘woke’ storylines, such as Carrie’s daughter Lily entering a polycule.

Shortly after the cancelation, sources informed the Daily Mail that the widely derided Che Diaz storyline was what tipped the scales for the show to be scrapped.
