Sarah Beeny: Marriage Has Its Rough Patches

has given a refreshing outlook on her 23-year marriage to her artist husband, Graham Swift. 

The presenter, 54, reflected on their 'bumps in the road' over the years, admitted she has days when 'divorce looks like a good idea' and revealed she even gets comments from their four sons on how they 'argue a lot'. 

Speaking to OK! Magazine, Sarah revealed how her marriage was tested when she was diagnosed with breast in August 2022 and underwent gruelling chemotherapy, as well as a double mastectomy. She was given the all-clear a year later. 

At the time, Sarah made headlines when she said her marriage was 'hanging by a thread', but the presenter has now clarified she had only meant it as a 'joke'. 

However, the TV star gave an honest outlook, as she said: 'There have been bumps in the road in 34 years, it would have been so boring otherwise. It’s not been perfect all along, but what relationship is? That’s the truth of it. I’ve learned in life that if you don’t have the bad times, then you don’t appreciate the good times.

'My children sometimes say, "You and Dad argue a lot", and there are days when I don’t fancy him and divorce seems like a good idea. But the next minute they see us in the garden holding hands and they know we love each other. It’s healthy for them to see that.'

Sarah met Graham when she was 19 and they went on marry in 2002. 

The Property Ladder presenter said she still likes to 'keep the spark alive', even if 'life gets in the way'.

Sarah previously revealed why she and her husband Graham to one another. 

She admitted saying 'I love you' became a sort of 'inside joke' for the high school lovebirds, who used to ridicule friends who would say that - and break up shortly afterwards.

Talking to Prima magazine, she said: 'I'm married to my best friend. I don't know what our secret is, but I think having a spark of the child in you helps.'

'I met Graham when I was 19 and he was 18. We used to laugh at friends who would say 'I love you' after one date and then dump them the next day, so not saying it became an inside joke.'

'To this day, we've never officially said it,' she admitted. 

The mocking approach became standard routine to the point that whenever Graham slips-up, the property expert seems to hilariously stop him.

She continued; 'I once told Graham "even if you didn't have any money or never got a job, I'd still love you", I had to backtrack and explain that it was just a turn of phrase.

'Every time Graham has slipped up and said it, I've said "that's slightly yucky, could you not say that again?"
