Gore, 49, told viewers she will be taking a leave of absence from her hosting duties at Open House and New York Live while undergoing treatment.
'It just felt right to tell you myself, I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I'm going to be stepping away for treatment and surgery,' she said during Thursday's episode of New York Live.
'If I didn't say that I was a little bit scared, I'd be lying,' Gore added.
Though Gore 'assumed' she would be getting the diagnosis one day, as both her mother and sister previously battled the illness, she admitted that it still caught her 'off guard.'
'I always knew I was high-risk. I always assumed this day would come. But let me tell you, you are never ready,' she said.

'You're just never ready for some reason because, even when you catch it early because you're doing everything right, it is an emotional blow.'
'I wasn't ready for that. That actually really surprised me. It really stung,' she added.
'I know it's going to sting for a minute. You know what? It's stinging right now,' she said.
'But I also know that I am exactly where I need to be, and I’m surrounded by incredible doctors, and people who are taking such good care of me at home, thank you.'
Gore then thanked her 'family' and said she feels 'loved' and 'very supported' by her co-workers.
Gore said she's 'choosing to believe' that 'maybe there is a gift in this.'

'Even if I don't fully understand what it is yet. I'm working on that part. If anything, it's already a precious reminder of how precious life is and how important it is to focus on what really matters,' she said.
'I’m going to come back better than ever, and I'm going to see you on the other side of this,' the host said, adding, 'Thank you for all you've done.'
