The Channel Nine presenter, 49, took to Instagram on Tuesday with the heartbreaking news, sharing a length tribute to her 'Nanny Flannery' along with a gallery of touching family photos.

'Last week we laid our beautiful Nanny Flannery to rest. She was 100 & she was just pure magic,' the TV personality wrote.

The television star said she included messages from friends of both herself and her mother in the tribute because her grandmother 'was universally adored'.

'And in return, she was adoring. A grandmother's love is like no other,' she added.

Samantha also reflected on a poignant moment surrounding her grandmother's death, explaining that Dorothy loved bright colours – especially yellow – and that sunlight streamed through the golden leaves of a ginkgo tree in her garden on the day she passed away.

The former Sunrise star announced the sad news on her Instagram.

'Last Tuesday afternoon, a little while after the Melbourne Cup was run, our beautiful mumma passed away, just 10 days before her 69th birthday,' Sam wrote.

'She had fought bravely for a long time and suffered a lot, but finally her big–loving heart just couldn't do it anymore.

'Mums are the centre of a family and losing ours has thrown us all into a spin and left a huge, irreparable hole in each of our hearts,' she continued.

'We are very, very sad. She was wonderful; kind, loving, loyal, wildly wicked, funny & formidable.'

Samantha also shared a photo of her late mother's rose garden, which she called Libby's 'happy place'.

'This is her 'happy place', her rose garden, where we remember her. She will be missed forever, but she's at peace now... forever an angel.'

In an earlier post, she said mum Libby had been 'gravely ill for a while' and 'has an autoimmune disease which has resulted in heart failure.'
