Sam Thompson has revealed the moment he decided to kickstart his viral ‘glow-up,’ following his split from girlfriend Zara McDermott.
The Made In Chelsea star, 32, has impressed fans with his transformation in recent weeks, after getting in shape for his Soccer Aid matchball mission earlier this month.
And speaking to MailOnline on the red carpet for the TRIC Awards earlier this week, Sam admitted even he’s been taken aback by the reaction to his new look, which became a recurring mention on his podcast Staying Relevant.
Sam split from girlfriend Zara at the end of last year after five years together, and she has begun dating One Direction star Louis Tomlinson.
He said: ‘Do you know what’s funny? I sometimes and think ”how s**t did I look?”
‘And it’s true, because I remember, and I don’t mind this going anywhere, I remember looking in the mirror and going ”damn it man, you’ve got to do something about yourself.”

‘So I just went to the gym a little bit, sort of like started buying some clothes had a haircut, and then you’re like God, I feel so great. I really really do. I feel awesome, I’m so happy, which is so nice.’
Asked whether he’s quit booze as part of his transformation, Sam added: ‘No, no. I never really drink that much, anyway, to be fair. But genuinely, it’s just having something to work towards, which was the challenge for me.
‘And then, to be honest with you, I’ve got amazing friends and family surrounded by me as well. I’m so incredibly lucky.’
During the interview, Sam also confirmed that he and Pete have kickstarted preparations for their live show at London’s O2 Arena in September.
Last month, Sam sent fans into meltdown when he unveiled his ‘post-split glow up’.
Sam’s hunky new look received rave reviews from fans, who gushed over the ‘beautiful’ snaps and declared he looked ‘better than ever’.
It comes days after Sam’s pal Pete Wicks said the star has ‘realised his worth’ in comments made following his split from Zara.
Amid his major life changes, Pete told how Sam has ‘worked on himself’ and said things have ‘got better’ for his best friend in recent months.

Sam spoke to MailOnline on the red carpet for Thursday’s TRIC Awards, before he and close pal Pete Wicks scooped the podcast gong for their show Staying Relevant
‘We’ve both had so much going on. Sam had a different start to the year, part of being someone’s friend is being there no matter what to say ”things are always going to get better” and they have,’ he told New Magazine.
Pete went on to gush about how Sam has ‘realised his worth’ and ‘deserves the best’ as he looked towards his friend’s future.
‘He’s great. Sometimes it’s about allowing people to work on themselves, realise their worth. I hope I’ve helped him do that, because he deserves the best,’ he added.
Sam joined his close pal and co-host Pete Wicks at Tuesday’s TRIC Awards, where they scooped their first ever win for their podcast, despite admitting to MailOnline ahead of the ceremony they were ‘never going to win.’
He and Pete were euphoric as they took to the stage to accept the gong, with footage showing the moment Sam eagerly leapt on top of his pal in excitement, having beaten Begin Again with Davina McCall, Sh**ged. Married. Annoyed, and That Peter Crouch Podcast.

Admitting the win came as a huge surprise, Sam himself admitted he ‘hadn’t prepared a speech,’ as they were so sure they wouldn’t triumph.
He said: ‘We didn’t actually prepare anything because we’re so used to losing, so I hope Pete is just going to riff for a second!’
Pete then added: ‘All I’m gonna say is, we are a couple of absolute wallies as you can tell, but we started this a few years ago, we’ve now got a production company,’
Praising the Staying Relevant team Pete added: ‘I’m just really blessed to win something with my best mate, because it’s an absolute pleasure, and Sam I’m really proud of you!’
‘I’m so proud of you, we’re so lucky!’ Sam added.
‘We’ve got an amazing family of listeners and this is literally our dream come true being able to do this podcast.’
