Sam Mac from Sunrise reveals the not-so-glamorous life of a TV weatherman

He’s one of the biggest stars on breakfast TV.

And now funnyman Sam Mac has shared with fans a video taking them behind the scenes of his quirky weather reports – and it’s far from glamorous. 

Sam, currently in Queensland for Seven’s Sunrise, revealed that most of his 12-hour day was taken up travelling thousands of kilometres.

Taking to his Instagram on Tuesday Sam captioned his clip ‘Just a regular day in the life of your TV Weatherman’.

Rising at 3.07am in Brisbane Sam could be seen joining his producer Sean Flynn – known to viewers as the ‘Human Emoji’  – only half an hour later.

The weather team then completed a two hour drive to Gympie, which is 160kms north of Brisbane.

Sam then shared behind the scenes footage from Sunrise’s weather segment on Tuesday filmed at Gympie’s Giant Matilda kangaroo tourist destination.

At one point Sam was seen riding around the giant kangaroo statue in a mobility scooter that has been re-modelled as ‘miniature’ fire engine.

Sam, who is known for his amusing interactions with members of the public is also seen posing for fan selfies.

‘Become a TV weatherman they said, have fun they said,’ he joked with bystanders.

After completing filming Sam then hit the road again at 8.40am to join a flight in Brisbane to Longreach, which is 1131kms from the state capital.

The highlights of Sam’s long day included sharing part of his air trip with Australian of the Year, Professor Richard Scolyer AO.

Sam then joked he finished his day by ironing his underwear.

The amusing video ended with Sam sharing a disappointment: an empty bar fridge in his hotel room.

On Tuesday Sam travelled from Brisbane to Gympie and then back to Brisbane before arriving at his final destination of Longreach, Queensland.  In total the funnyman's journey was a distance of nearly 2,000 kms.

Sam’s fans were quick to message the weatherman with their enthusiasm for the share.

‘OMG this is so damn funny,’ gushed one follower.

‘Love you Sam Mac, I reckon you got the best job in the world and you do an amazing job.’

Another fan wondered how Sam was able to keep up his stamina: 

‘Do you just got straight to bed? I would! What a day!,’ they asked.

‘We appreciate the effort you put in to make us smile everyday,’ another fan added.
