Sabrina Carpenter’s fans have theorized that the mystery ex she is singing about on her new single, Taste, is one particular heartthrob singer she dated in the past.
After dropping her third single off her new album, Short n’ Sweet, earlier this week, many people have been speculating about the identity of the mystery ex she sings about ‘leaving an impression on.’
Her newest release, a catchy and upbeat track with a mock horror music video, features lyrics taunting her ex-boyfriend’s on-again girlfriend and sending her a warning.
‘I heard you’re back together and if that’s true / You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissin’ you,’ Carpenter, 25, sings in her scathing message in the chorus.
In the bridge, she tells ‘the other woman’: ‘You can have him if you like / I’ve been there, done that once or twice.’

After the release, her fans took to social media to share their theories, speculating that she is singing about her love triangle with Shawn Mendes and his on-and-off relationship with Camila Cabello.
Many of her fans even caught on that the actors casted in her slasher-themed, mock horror music video, which stars scream queen Jenna Ortega, resembled the Señorita singers and exes.
Previously, Carpenter was rumored to be dating Mendes after they were romantically linked in February 2023 and spotted out together a number of times before he rekindled his relationship with Cabello for just six weeks.
Evidence that proves this theory is in Carpenter’s album name itself, some of her fans said.
This comes after the Espresso hitmaker said that Short n’ Sweet is not referring to her height but also some of her past romances.
‘I thought about some of these relationships and how some of them were the shortest I’ve ever had, and they affected me the most,’ she told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in a recent interview.
Her fans also referenced her music video, which ends with her and Ortega not only kissing but walking away from the boyfriend’s funeral together and laughing about the time they wasted on him.

Some of her fans speculated that she was shading Mendes after he was spotted kissing Cabello in April 2023, just months after he was romantically linked to Carpenter.
‘We never talk about how you / Found God at your ex’s house, always / Made sure that the phone was face-down / Seems like overnight, I’m just the b**** you hate now,’ she sang.
On the same track, she seemingly made another subtle dig: ‘I know you’re not / The sharpest tool in the shed / We had sex, I met your best friends / Then a bird flies by and you forget.’

She also seemingly called out Mendes and Cabello’s reunion at Coachella in April 2023 on the same song.
