Sabrina Carpenter has landed a major acting role in a big Hollywood movie, it was shared on Tuesday.
The film is the classic musical Alice In Wonderland which will require the chart-topping songbird to both act and sing, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Sources told the publication the movie is a ‘passion project’ for the global pop icon.Â
The film will be based on Lewis Carroll’s novel which follows of a girl named Alice who falls through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world of kooky creatures.
The book already inspired the 1951 Disney cartoon movie, a 2010 film with Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska, and its 2016 sequel Alice Through The Looking Glass.
The director behind the new feature is Lorene Scafaria, who managed to get a great performance out of another pop singer, Jennifer Lopez, for the stripper saga Hustlers.

Scafaria is also writing this new version of Alice In Wonderland, which will likely be targeted at Generation Z as Carpenter is 26-years-old.
This is Carpenter’s first major studio movie. The musical is from Universal Pictures and a release date has not yet been announced for what will be a big-budget film.
Alice follows the White Rabbit down a rabbit hole, leading to a bizarre world where she runs into odd creatures, often changing size.Â
Key events include attending a Mad Tea Party, playing a bizarre game of croquet with the Queen of Hearts, and being called as a witness at a trial for the Knave of Hearts.Â
The plot culminates with the Queen ordering her execution, and Alice wakes up just as the playing card soldiers attack.Â
The petite music wonder already has an impressive acting resume. She started acting at age 12 when she landed a role in Law & Order: SVU.
Carpenter followed that with appearances in Phineas And Ferb, Sofia The First, Orange Is The New Black, Austin & Ally and Adventures In Babysitting.
Then from 2014 until 2017 the thespian appeared in 72 episodes of Girl Meets World with Danielle Fishel.

This comes after Carpenter poked fun at her provocative style as she hosted Saturday Night Live in October.
The Tears hitmaker took the reins for the latest episode of the long-running comedy variety show and joked in her monologue that she doesn’t want to only be known for her risqué performances and lyrics.

Sabrina also made light of the controversial cover for her album Man’s Best Friend and joked that it had been taken when she had performed on Saturday Night Live’s 50th Anniversary Special in February.
The star said: ‘Some people got a little freaked out by the cover. I’m not sure why.
‘It was just this me on all fours with an unseen figure pulling my hair. But what people don’t realise is, that’s just how they cropped it. If you zoom out, it’s clearly a picture from the 50th anniversary special of Bowen (Yang) helping me up by the hair… after Martin Short shoved me out of the buffet line.’
