Sabrina Carpenter Honors Cher in Vintage Bob Mackie Gown

After previously rocking looks inspired by Madonna and Britney Spears, Sabrina Carpenter paid homage to another female music icon this week.

While attending her MTV Video Music Awards after-party in New York City on Sunday, the Espresso hitmaker, 26, rocked a vintage Bob Mackie frock that Cher famously wore 50 years ago.

It features a skintight black bodysuit and dazzling pink and blue fringe decked out with mirror rhinestones for maximum glamour.

The dress was custom created for the legend, 79, and famously worn during her duet performance of the hit ‘Shame, Shame, Shame’ with Tina Turner on The Cher Show back in April 1975.

And the archival Mackie frock fit perfectly with Sabrina’s VMAs after-party theme, which was Studio54-inspired.

The two-time Grammy winner oozed confidence in Cher’s original dress as she made her way into the soiree with her security guards in tow.

She styled it with sky-high silver chrome heels, which added several inches to her petite 5foot frame.

The Pennsylvania native further leaned into the 1970s aesthetic by styling her signature blonde hair in voluminous disco era curls.

As for her makeup, Sabrina rocked bold lower lashes and a vibrant pink lip.

Cher wasn’t the only music icon that Sabrina paid tribute to during the 2025 MTV VMAs.

For her first-ever TV performance of her latest single, Tears, Sabrina appeared to channel Britney Spears as she stripped down to a bedazzled bra and danced in the ‘rain’ inside UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

Sabrina’s look and performance was reminiscent of one of the acts on Spears’ Dream Within a Dream Tour back in 2001.

Spears famously writhed around in the rain while wearing a diamond Bob Mackie bra — which sold at auction for $78,000 earlier this year — during the iconic concert, which was later turned into a televised concert special for HBO.

Sabrina also gave nod to Spears at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

She famously played Spears’ iconic voiceover from her 2000 smash hit, Oops!… I Did It Again, just moments before taking to the stage to perform a medley of songs from her sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet.

Spears reacted to the tribute via Instagram, tellings fans that Sabrina made her ‘cool’ again.

‘I forget I’m famous sometimes because I’m a mom, I’m kind of old, blah blah blah. But I thought it was kind of cool. She made me cool,’ the pop icon said.

At that year’s VMAs ceremony, Sabrina also showcased her love for Madonna by wearing the dazzling Bob Mackie gown that the 67-year-old once wore to the Oscars in 1991.

Sabrina channeled Madonna again months later for her first-ever Vogue cover in February as she posed in a platinum-blonde wavy wig and a baby blue Dolce & Gabbana teddy that was reminiscent of Madonna’s iconic Jean Paul Gaultier corset from her 1990 Blond Ambition World Tour.

Many fans marveled at how much Sabrina and Madonna ‘look alike’ — which inspired a response from the Queen Of Pop herself.

Madonna took to Sabrina’s official Instagram account at the time to comment with eye emojis: ‘Is this a Valentine’s present to me?’

At that, Sabrina – who boasts 99.8M social media followers – responded: ‘@madonna It sure is!’

At this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, Sabrina took home three Moon Person trophies.

She first won in the Best Album category for Short N Sweet, which was released last August.

She began her acceptance speech by thanking her fans as she said: ‘Hello. Oh, my goodness. There’s so many people here. Well, thank you. Thank you, VMAs, for this. This is, this is my second moon man, which is so crazy.

‘I really don’t take for granted when you guys take the time out of your lives to listen to album. And if I’m lucky enough that that is my album, I am so grateful whether that be Short N Sweet or Man’s Best Friend my new album or one of my 29 before that. I’m just the luckiest girl in the world’

She later went on to win Best Pop Artist and Best Visual Effects for her Manchild music video.
