Ryan Thomas has said he was secretly planning to break up with his now-fiancée Lucy Mecklenburgh.
The former Coronation Street star, 41, got engaged to the TV personality, 34, in 2019 two years after they met while competing on the reality show, Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls.
But it seems their romance was one which nearly never happened.
Ryan confessed on the latest episode of his podcast with brothers Scott, 37, and Adam, 37, that he was actually planning to break things off with Lucy on their first date after getting back from filming the reality show.
He admitted he found it ‘a bit unattractive’ that Lucy actually liked him and was going to self sabotage by calling it quits.
However once he got to the date, Lucy looked ‘incredible’ and was ‘really cool’ – and he decided he was in it for the long haul.

Speaking on the Christmas special of At Home With The Thomas Bros, Ryan’s brother Scott began: ‘Ryan asked you to be his girlfriend…’
‘On our first date yeah,’ Lucy chimes in, at which point Ryan adds: ‘But wait wait we’d been on an island for a month.’
‘No no wait but how did it… this is cringing me out,’ Scott says, at which point Adam and his wife start to laugh.
Lucy continues: ‘Well we’ve known each other for like two months, we’d been on the island for a month together.’
‘Did you not say “Are we official?”‘, Scott asks as Ryan says: ‘I would never say that I’m old school.’
Lucy says: ‘It gets worse. He later on told me he was meeting me, because I was working in Manchester, meeting me to say “No, no I’m not interested”.’
Ryan interrupted to say: ‘I was just a bit like… ugh I dunno I just found it a bit unattractive that someone actually liked me and once I got them I was like “No it’s not for me”.
‘Then when I went to meet her…’ he adds, as Lucy says: ‘It’s mad isn’t it.’

Clarifying, Scott says: ‘So you were going to break it off and then you saw her.’
‘…and she looked incredible,’ Ryan continues. ‘And she was like super cool and we had this kiss in the [his brother Adam’s] car, yeah in Adam’s car. I don’t know why you had your shoes off… but your foot were on the dashboard. And I went “Yeah I’m in”.’
Bursting out laughing Scott adds: ‘Ryan loves feet! That’s actually probably true.’
It comes after Ryan revealed in a previous episode the date-night drama he and his fiancée Lucy once had.
He said: ‘Well, I’ll tell you something funny then, this is quite funny, I wasn’t going to talk about it… and I might even take it out of the edit, but we’ll put it in there anyway.
He continued: ‘So I built up date night, I built up date night for a while, I booked the restaurant, I booked the hotel.’
Scott then jumped in, revealing he’d already heard whispers of the drama, urging his brothers to question who told him.
Ryan said: ‘I was really, really excited about it,’ before Adam added: ‘And the problem is, and this is the advice that I gave to Ryan, whenever you think that date night is gonna go well,
Ryan interrupted to say: ‘I was just a bit like… ugh I dunno I just found it a bit unattractive that someone actually liked me and once I got them I was like “No it’s not for me”‘
‘Whenever you think date night is gonna go a certain way, and you’ve got it all planned out in your head, it never ever works out that way.’
Ryan then explained how the night began to unravel: ‘We got to the hotel, lovely room, went for dinner in this beautiful new restaurant overlooking the whole of Manchester.
‘It just slowly.. I just started to feel it bubbling. And every time a conversation come up, it was a debate, right, rather than conversation it was like, you just felt the energy was all off.
Things then escalated when Lucy suddenly disappeared from the table.
He explained: ‘Anyway, she’s put her coat on, and I thought she’s gone to the toilet, 10 minutes has passed, 15 minutes has passed, half an hour passed! And I was still sat there. So I text her and said “long toilet break”.
Giggling, he added: ‘And I rang her, and it went boom down, I rang her again, and it went down, and then I was like okay, so she’s not coming back.’
