Ryan Reynolds on a Decade of Deadpool Success

Ryan Reynolds ‘skipped down memory lane’ to reflect on his nearly 10 years of playing Deadpool as his latest sequel Deadpool & Wolverine continues to break box office records.

The 47-year-old Canadian actor  — who recently revealed the co-star he argued with on set of Deadpool & Wolverine —  took to his Instagram on Saturday to commemorate the milestone with a series of snaps from the superhero film.

Many of the photos offered a behind-the-scenes look at the Marvel blockbuster, which raked in over $390 million domestically in just 10 days, boasting one of the biggest second weekends in history, per The Hollywood Reporter.

‘Nearly a decade of getting to do this. 10 years ago, we would have gleefully taken these BONKERS 2nd weekend numbers as our opening weekend,’ Ryan began his heartfelt message.

He continued: ‘The way #DeadpoolAndWolverine has captured the moment is hard to process. Feels a bit like it’s happening to someone else. Either way, making these movies has been more fun than anyone has a right to have. I can’t help but skip down memory lane a bit.’

He went on to thank his collaborators on the three films — which included 2016’s Deadpool and 2018’s Deadpool 2 — but noted that ‘there are way too many people who’ve made pivotal creative contributions to list.’

He added: ”This has always been a game of inches and the relentlessness we hit this movie with (particularly in post production which is another phase of the writing process) is something I’ll never forget.

‘Thank you to every single person who showed up for this film. Thank you to everyone seeing it multiple times, making friends with new characters and tipping our hats to some familiar faces we love from the past. What a damn thrill this has been.’

On Friday, Deadpool & Wolverine earned $28.3, putting it on course to gross $94 million to $96 million in its sophomore weekend, for a 10-day domestic total north of $390 million, per THR.

It reached a significant milestone on Friday by surpassing the $300 million mark, overtaking Deadpool 2’s lifetime domestic total of $318.5 million.

By Sunday, the movie will have surpassed the lifetime domestic and global earnings of both Deadpool films after just two weekends in theaters.

Deadpool earned $363.1 million domestically and $782.6 million globally, while the second film reached $734.5 million worldwide.

The film’s global total is expected to reach between $785 million and $800 million by Sunday, making it the third highest-grossing R-rated film worldwide.

Todd Phillips’ Joker currently holds the top spot at $1.064 billion, with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer in second place at $975.2 million.

Deadpool & Wolverine is anticipated to eventually achieve around $1.2 billion.
