Barbie actor Ryan Gosling has admitted he ‘understands’ why everyone is sick of his character Ken after Emily Blunt recently declared he was ‘dead’.
The actor, 43, reunited with his The Fall Guy co-star, Emily, on Saturday Night Live earlier this month – and also broke up with Ken as he hosted for the third time.
During his opening monologue, Ryan revealed to the crowd hat he had ‘broken up’ with his Barbie character, Ken, and sang a break-up song to prove it.
Ryan said: ‘Ken and I, we had to break up. We went too deep. And it’s over. So I’m not gonna talk about it,’ but then added: ‘I actually am gonna talk about it a little bit.’
‘You know when you play a character that hard, that long, just letting go just feels like a breakup. And for processing a breakup, there’s really only one thing that can help: the music of the great Taylor Swift.’

As he sang, Ryan performed to the tune of Taylor’s track All Too Well. Some lyrics included: ‘If I said that I was doing fine, you know I’d be lying/ Because I was just Ken, and now I’m just Ryan.’
However, after Ryan made several attempts to break into song about his struggles with letting go of Ken, Emily jumped in and said: ‘Ken’s dead. All right, Ken is dead.’
During a joint interview with the Sunday Times Style magazine, Emily and Ryan were told there isn’t a ‘huge amount left to ask about Ken’.
Emily quipped: ‘You see, everyone’s sick of him.’, and Ryan replied that he understood.
Emily and Ryan’s version of All Too Well was praised by Taylor and the Oppenheimer actress admitted she felt emotional when she saw the singer’s reaction.
Emily said: ‘Is it weird that I cried when she said she liked it? I was overwhelmed. I’m a massive Swiftie and my daughters are obsessed with her.’ She added that her children are also big fans of Ryans, saying: ‘She is their first great passion — other than Ryan Gosling.’
Ryan says he has heard lots of stories about boys using his song, I’m Just Ken, for support, including a youngster whose girlfriend has just broken up with him.
The actor also revealed why he thinks Barbie director Greta had ‘more affection’ for his character than any of the others on set.

He said: ‘I think Greta had more affection for Ken than any other character. Even though she made a Barbie film, she was very conscious that she has two little boys, and so wanted to start a conversation. I heard about a kid whose girlfriend broke up with him and he’d watch I’m Just Ken to make him feel it was OK. Like, “I just wasn’t the right person for her, but that doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with me …”
Ryan and Emily are currently busy promoting their new action comedy, The Fall Guy.
During the film’s trailer, Colt (Ryan) finds himself in quite the complicated situation while working with his director ex Jody (Emily) while also trying to solve a crime.
Nearly the entire clip focuses on whether or not Colt and Jody rekindle the flame and toward the end a moment is shown of the two finally sharing a kiss.
The trailer is set to the tune of Bon Jovi classic You Give Love A Bad Name which sets the fun tone for the action comedy film.
Colt and Jody reunite on set despite the director insisting she never wants to work with the star again.
However things get particularly interesting when the star of the film Tom Ryder, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, goes missing.
Jody asks Colt to find Tom which leads him to plenty of trouble but luckily he has his stunt training background to get him out of many physical situations.
The film also stars Hannah Waddingham and Winston Duke.
