Ryan Gosling revealed that he was ‘dropped’ down multiple stories off of a building despite his ‘fear of heights’ in the upcoming action-comedy titled The Fall Guy.
The Barbie actor, 43 – who was announced to appear as host for Saturday Night Live next month in April – opened up to People about performing his own stunts during the movie’s premiere at the SXSW film festival in Austin, Texas.
‘They dropped me stories off of a building, and I have a fear of heights,’ the star – who plays a retired stuntman – expressed to the outlet.
Gosling then explained that he wanted to do ‘a few’ because it was ‘important’ to him, although he admitted he, ‘would have been happy to say I did none of my own stunts in this movie.’
Ryan added, ‘It helped me to understand exactly on some small level what [stunt workers] do every day.’

The premise follows his character of Colt Seavers, ‘a stuntman who left the business a year earlier to focus on both his physical and mental health.’
‘He’s drafted back into service when the star of a mega-budget studio movie, which is being directed by his ex, goes missing,’ per an official IMDB synopsis.
The Notebook actor further opened up about the movie at the film festival, and before the screening began, he said, ‘We hope that it is reflective of how much the crew gives to every single film,’ per The Hollywood Reporter.
Ryan then gave a special shout out to his own stunt performer, Logan Holladay, who was seated in the audience.
‘There is a moment in the film where he buckles me in for a stunt that he is about to do,’ Gosling recalled. ‘Then I get out of the car and he pats me on the back for a stunt that he just did. How f****d up is that?’
‘What I love about this movie is in any other film you would never know that but in this one you do.’
‘It’s an opportunity to finally acknowledge the stunt performers and the incredible contribution that they already make to movies,’ the star continued.
David Leitch – who directed the film – added, ‘It was a love letter to stunts. We knew we had to be authentic in that world.’

Over the weekend, Ryan and his co-star Emily Blunt took to the stage during the 96th Academy Awards where the duo paid a special tribute to stunt performers – and also poked fun at ‘Barbenheimer.’
After the pair’s humorous banter between whether Barbie or Oppenheimer was better, Gosling gushed that, ‘We’re here to celebrate the stunt community.’
Emily then replied with, ‘Massively, yes,’ while Ryan continued, ‘They’ve been such a crucial part of our industry since the beginning of cinema.’
The British-born actress said, ‘It’s true. They are truly the unsung heroes who risk life and limb for cinema. Play back.’
Following a video montage that played for the star-studded attendees, Gosling expressed, ‘To the stunt performers and stunt coordinators who help make movie magic, we salute you.’

The 2024 Oscars were a big night for Ryan, who took to the stage more than once – and notably gave a memorable performance to the song, I’m Just Ken, from Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.
He dressed for the occasion in a hot pink suit that contained rhinestone details that sparkled under the bright stage lights.
The actor additionally wore a pink shirt underneath while slipping into a pair of sleek, black dress shoes. For a finishing touch, he also sported a pair of stylish, black shades.
He brought the audience to its feet as he belted out lyrics, and also jumped into the crowd, allowing his co-star Margot Robbie as well as other celebrities to help join in and sing the song.
While talking to USA Today in regards to the performance while at the SXSW festival in Austin, Gosling explained, ‘I just wanted it to be as fun as possible.’
‘That’s what we tried to do, and if it took 62 Kens and 40 big Barbie heads and Slash to do it, then that’s what we had to do.’
Blunt also chimed in during the interview and added, ‘I said it to him yesterday, “People are going to talk to you about it till you’re 90 years old. It will be people’s in to conversation with you until the day you die.”‘
The actress recalled, ‘It was so epic. It just brought the house down. It was incredible. People were grinning.’
‘The energy in the room shifted. The Oscars is incredible and full of reverence and ceremony, but it can also be fun as hell as we found out.’

At the festival, he revealed that the adorable animal was actually inspired by his partner, Eva Mendes’, own dog, per The Hollywood Reporter
‘I think chemistry’s a funny thing. You can fake it, which you do have to do sometimes. But I think if you have a natural humor and a flow with someone, it’s just much easier.’
Gosling also added, ‘Emily Blunt, she’s the secret sauce of this film. I’m such a fan of hers but she’s in full Blunt force in this movie.’
‘It’s something to see. She’s so funny, so, so, so good. It was a dream to work with her. She’s such a great partner.’
Another special co-star in the film is a dog who becomes Ryan’s sidekick – and can only listen and take commands when spoken to in French.

‘Eva used to have a dog named Hugo who was a Belgian Malinois who was an attack dog. He only spoke French. He’s passed now, so this is my homage to him.’
